The governor reported he had

tion of the whole situation at
Eastern State Correctional Insti
tution.
“I was a little bit upset to find
a situation where these hardened
criminals were able to have guns
and various other instruments
that they used in that attempted
break on Sunday night down
there,” Lawrence told his weekly
news conference.
The governor said the prison
officials, in cooperation with state
police and Philadelphia police, did
a good job in bringing the at
tempted break under control.
Two prison guards were injured
in the attempted break which in
volved 36 convicts.
