Student teachers returning to campus from practice teach ing will no longer be faced by eight weeks of an "ed bloc" if the changes planned in the College of Education due to the four-term system are ap proved by . the University Senate. MI ed majors will take one full term (10 weeks) of student teach ing under the new plan, accord ing to Abram W. Vandermeer, as sociate dean of the college. Dur ing this same period-they will also take a seminar dealing with the school in its community setting, he said. At present, secondary ed ma jors spend eight weeks practice teaching for 9 credits and eight weeks in an :'ed bloc" for six required credits and a three credit seminar. Elementary ed majors now de vote two full semesters to prac tice teaching and "ed bloc." With the credits saved by the elimination of one period of stu dent teaching, elementary ed ma jors will be able to take one or a combination of three options: credits in related fields such as retarded children or speech cor rection, free credits to develop greater depth in such areas as art, science, or the humanities, f.ir elective courses in the elementary, school teaching subjects. Under any of 'the options, how ever, elementary majors will still take two three-credit methods courses, he said. The secondary ed bloc will be broken up into a sequence of three-credit courses to be taken I in the regular terms. Freshmen will take Math 8 (Statistics) and THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA Psychology 2. Sophomores will take Ed Services 115 and Psy chology 13 and 14. Juniors will take a four-credit course in their teaching area. Pro posed areas are English, foreign languages, social sciences, na tural sciences, and mathematic's. Seniors will take a newly de signed course in the foundations of th e American Secondary School.
