TUESDAY. DECEMBER 6. 1960 BU Fees to Multi--Level By PAT HALLER (This is the sixth in a series of articles on traffic and. parking problems which confront other colleges and universities.) A parking fee collected from students and faculty using University owned parking lots will partly finance Boston University's first multi-level parking garage, according to the Boston, University News. The fee of 25 cents per car was scheduled so that the University would not have to spend funds on parking facilities which were normally allocated to educational purposes, Kurt M. Hertzfeld, vice president for ad ministrative affairs, said. The two-level garage with about a 350-car capacity will be located in front of the Univer sity-owned building at 700 Commonwealth Ave., the News said. According to Hertzfeld, the garage is scheduled for corn pletion in March. Hertzfeld said that the construc tion of the garage and also the expansion of parking facilities a University Field off Gaffney St. were recommended by the Park ing Development Corp., who de signed the new _garage. The ex panded lot which originally han dled 100 cars now accommodates 250. The Parking Development Corp. found these two projects the "only hope for immediate improvement of the parking situation," Hertzfeld said. At present, cars can generally park on streets adjacent to the Uni versity buildings for only two hours. The in projects are just the first steps the University's long range parking program, Hertz feld added. Boston University is located in one of the leading educational centers of the . world and also the cultural center of New England. Most of the buildings are on Com monwealth Ave. and Bay State Rd. between Kenmore Square and the Boston University Bridge. The University has three residence halls for men and 15 for women. 0 /' yeller Solve s Bench Puzzle Remember that picture in The, Daily Collegian of zhe missing: bench top? The clue to its disap-I Eearance was received from Otto . Mueller, director of housing, It seems that the University must be harboring amazons, since a group of students were able to lift the 8 font by 22 inch, 6-inch thick, 800-pound limestone top off its supports! However. in moving the bench, the students dropped and broke it. The Department of Housing has estimated the cost of replac ing the bench at $B5. Replacement is being delayed, though, in an effort to find the individuals re sponsible for the damage. Accord ing to Mueller they will be as sessed for the cost if they are found. It is just this kind of thought essness that increases the operat ng costs for the Department of °using, he said. • CALL US FOR YOUR STUDY BREAK 4 : 0"1 , 4412 , : PIZZA .
