TOI P _'SDAY, DECEMBER 6. 1960 Collegian Places Ist For Sports For the second straight year The Daily Collegian wa s awarded first place in the sports writing division of the student newspaper contest conducted annually by Sigma Delta Chi, professional journ alistic society. A first place award for radio reporting was won by John Truby, '6O, and a first place for radio or TV newswriting or com mentary was awarded to Jim Jimarro, Torn Haskell and Agnes Armon of Penn State. Citations were presented last week at the national convention of Sierra Delta Chi in New York City to Robert Tacelosky, senior in journalism from Mahanoy City, who was the official delegate of the Penn State SDX chapter. The Penn State chapter fell two points short of winning the 1960 Beckman Award. This award is given each year to the chapter judged to have carried - out the best professional journalistic pro gram. The University of Wisconsin chapter won the award with 92 points. Penn State was second with 90 points. H. Eugene Goodwin, director of the School of Journalism, was elected dfl-ector of Region One under a change instituted by the convention which divided the country into 11 regions for better chapter coordination.
