PAGE EIGHT Registration to Be Held For Adult Ed Programs State College residents may register for adult classes and informal instruction in home and family living and in the recreation program. Registration will be held from 7:30 - 9 p.m. today and tomorrow in the State College Junior High School at the W. Fairmont Ave. entrance These classes are organized to help individuals learn the latest methods in these fields resulting from recent research. Courses in the areas of family relationships, management and self improve ment are planned with this in mind, and courses in sewing, crafts and foods will also include the "why" in order to provide new information of value both to the individual and the family. Recognized experts in their fields are hired to provide this informa tion and to teach the classes. One unique feature of the pro gram is the participation of stu dents from the College of Home Economics as "student teachers." This enables Them to learn how to work with adult education classes and to become better ac quainted with residents of State College. Late registrations will he ac cepted where there are openings through Oct. 14, and there will be opportunities .to visit classes throughout the year to learn more about the program if the instruc tor's consent is obtained in ad vance. Most courses will, meet one night a week beginning next week. The fees for each class are indicated in the program and are necessary in order to cover in part the cost of it. There will be an ad ditional fee, varying from one to five dollars, for those partisipants residing out of the College Area School District. This established program, cooperatively planned, is sponsored by the State College Area School Board and super vised by the College of Home Economics. Althouse, assistant di rector of agricultural research, last night explained .the consoli dation in the number of curricu lums in the College of Agricul ture which took effect this fall. At the Agricultural Student Council meeting, he gave mem bers specific information on. the two curriculums, agricultural and biological sciences and landscape architecture, which •replaced the 22 former ones. All freshmen this year have en tered either of the two freshman year programs designated aSkPro gram A and Program B, and will choose their major field of study at the end of their freshman year. Althouse was asked to speak to the council when it was dis covered that many students did not fully understand this change and wanted more details which they could carry back to their clubs and groups. The Liberal Arts Student Coun cil in their first meeting of the year initiated action on several measures passed last spring. At that time it was decided to place a bulletin board on the ground floor of Sparks. The pur pose of the board will be to bring the liberal arts students into closer contact with the workings of the council and the school. A newsletter which will serve a similar purpose will also -be sent to all students in liberal arts. Other issues discussed but which council decided need more inquiry were pre-registration of seniors and a broader program of the Junior Year Abroad., —Research has shown that Printing is truly "The Art Pres ervative of all Arts" with approx imately 92 per cent of the knowl edge we accumulate being gained through the printed word.
