University to Join
With Nuclear Firm
To Build Reactor
The University has become a
participating member of the Sax
ton Nuclear Experimental corp,
oration. The corporation awarded
a $500,000 sub-contract for the
second phase of construction of a
nuclear reactor being built at
Saxton.
The reactor will be used to
study the process of generating
electric power by nuclear means.
By becoming a member of : the
corporation the University will
be able to use the facilities for
teaching and research.
The first phase of the project,
the building of a 110-ft., 262-ton
containment vessel, was recently
completed by Bethlehem Steel
Co. The second phase will include
concrete work inside and outside
the containment vessel. construc
tion of two additional buildings,
erection of structural steel, and
foundation, works for the waste
disposal syStem.
