MAY 18 IFC N• 'Man o Ronald Resh, senior in business administration from Lancaster and a member of Phi Mu Delta social fraternity, has been named Fraternity Man of the Month by the Inter fraternity Council. IFC will continue to sponsor a monthly contest to deter mine the winner of this title next year. Kappa Sigma Breaks Ground For New Home Ground breaking cere-' monies for the new Kappa , Sigma fraternity house were held Sunday afternoon. Pres-1 ident Eric A. Walker, using, the traditional silver-plated shovel, turned over the first' spadefull of dirt for the new $350,000 house. The L-shaped building is being constructed around the present structure passing in front of and to the left of the old house. The present structure will be torn down when the new building is completed and the area will be used as a courtyard. The new all-steel building will be ready for the 60 member's of Kappa Sigma to occupy by the end of November. Gary Reynolds, sophomore in industrial engineering from Hum melstown, and Eugene Duhnoski. junior in chemical engineering from Levittown, were awarded $2lO scholarships from the Star and Crescent Foundation, a char itable foundation of the frater nity, at the ground breaking cere monies. Applicants were also asked to write a concise summary of all their attributes pertaining to the selection of the Fraternity Man of the Month. The final requirement for ap plication was to have someone, write a brief essay about the en trant including reasons why he should be chosen for the title. Resh's major activities includ ed: vice president of IFC, rushing chairman and member of the IFC rushing evaluation committee, AFROTC Division Commander and general staff member. Other activities were Arnold Air Society, Society of Military Engineers, Accounting, Manage ment, Finance, Newman and Jazz Clubs. Resh is vice president of the Parmi Nous hat society for sen ior men, secretary of his frater nity and operations officer for the Arnold Air Society. He has received the AFROTC Award for being a distinguished military student. In conjunction with appointed positions, Resh has been chairman of the IFC Lawn Display and the IFC-Panhellenic Ball. Take the Old Main chimes for instance—they're on vaca tion. Or maybe it should be called sick leave. Several days ago it became ap-' parent that something was ser iously wrong with the mechanism which rings the chimes. For a while they were ringing one o'clock every fifteen minutes. Then they began to ring the quar ter hour on the hour. When time failed to cure what ever complaint the chimes have,, the University Maintenance ands Utility Department decided to in.• vestigate. It called in a service company which has taken care of the chimes mechanism in the past and began an examination. The service men were mysti fied, according to Robert W. Knouse, head of the maintenance I , and utility service. ' Finally the repairman came up with' a possible solution and or dered a ne‘v• part. When this piece of equipment will arrive and how soon the chimes will be func tioning properly is still unsettled. I So now the chimes are on vaca ,tion. They were turned off-yester day and will have a much needed irest until somebody figures out ' just • what is the matter with them. Spectroscopist to Speak Dr. Hertha Sponer, a spectro scopist in the Department of Physics at Duke University, will be the speaker at the 19th annual Marie Curie Lecture to be held at 8 tonight in the Hetzel Union auditorium.
