PAGE TWELVE State College Shivers March Breaks Boro Cold Wave Record Despite a pronounced upward trend in temperature during the last five days of the month, March 1960 will go into the i ecord books as the coldest March ever observed in this area. The temperature averaged 26 degrees during the month as compared to the normal 36 degrees. The old record of 28 degrees was established in 1888 and was tied in 1896 and again in 1916. The warmest March ever noted in this area occurred in 1945 when the temperature averaged a mild 49 degrees March 1960 was also the sixth snowiest March ever observed in this area. The total fall was 19.5 Inches as compared to a normal of 9.1 inches. Even with its numerous snow falls, this month fell far short of the all-time March snowfall record of 47.5 inches that was established in 1942. The big gest snow storm ever seen in this area occurred March 29-30 of that year when 30.5 inches fell. The upper air weather pattern that became well established in the second week of February con tinued to hold sway through most 'of March. Kieffer, graduate student from Wayne, has sign ed a contract with the Ice' Capades. He will start in July when the show begins rehear sals in Atlantic City for the 1961 season. Beginning in September the show will tour the major cities in the United States. Kieffer also has an option in his contract to per form with the show in Europe. Kieffer is a member of the Penn State Figure Skating Club. He was largely responsible for the organ ization of the club and has contri buted to the instruction offered. The club will meet at 7 tonight' in 112 Buckhout. A discussion of next season's program will be conducted at the meeting.A committee recommen dation to devise a program to en courage the instruction, practice and advancement of techniques will be discussed.
