TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 1960 8 Fireside Chats Set for Thursday The coeds of Atherton will use a "democratic" method of questioning a speaker who will talk on an undemocratic topic, one of eight fireside chats to be held in women's residence halls Thursday. Dr. Laurence Lattman, associate professor of geomorph ology, will speak In "The Necessity of the Undemocratic Congress Gives Four Awards To Debators Alan Elms and Pet r Galie re ceived two of four Pa liamentary Speaker awards at th Joseph F. O'Brien Interstate De aters' Con gress last weekend. Other recipients of the awards were Richard Tan and Richard Jones of Toronto. The awards are given to the four outstanding speakers of the congress, as judged by the coaches of the par ticipating schools. Jacqueline Leavitt, a member of the women's debate squad, was elected secretary of the congress. No bills were passed at the ses 7ion, which was attended by only out of the 20 schools which were invited. The debate squad will next travel to Washington, D.C. on March 18 to participate in the District Seven elimination tour ney. Kenney Appointed To Nuclear Staff Edward S. Kenney, formerly health physicist and radiological safety officer, has been named to the nuclear reactor facility staff. He will serve as assistant to the director of the reactor facility and as research associate in the De partment of Nuclear Engineering. Kenney is a graduate in physics of Saint Bonaventure University and also of the Oak Ridge Insti tute of Nuclear Studies program for radiological physics at the University of Rochester. After the 20-minute talk, coeds! will gather in groups of six to plan' what question each group will ask the speaker. Miss Lois McCoils, advisor of Women's Student Government, which sponsors the chats, said this form of questioning will give all women a chance to ask questions. Women from each hall will choose the subject they wish to hear initially, she said. and then the vice presidents of each hall will select the speaker to present it. Dorothy J. Lipp, dean of worn en, will speak to the girls of West Halls in McKee lounge on "What Penn State Women Will Be." Dr. Donald Kuspit, instructor of philosophy, will speak in Hibbs lounge on "Contemporary Philos ophy" and 'Dr. Joseph Faulkner, instructor of sociology, will speak lon the "Dilemma of the Contem porary Woman" in McElwain I lounge. Dr. Philip Young, professor of American literature will speak on "Catcher in the Rye and the Beat Generation" in Cooper lounge and Mrs. Alberta Siegel, assistant professor of child de velopment, will speak on "The College Woman After Gradu ation What?" in Cross lounge. PENNSYLVANIA Students Fined For Misconduct Robert Alman, sophomore in forestry from Rochester, N.Y., was fined $BB 50 for disorderly conduct by Justice of the Peace William Bell. Alman was arrested by borough police about 4:30 a,m. Sunday when he was found sleeping, in an intoxicated condition in the 3rd floor hallway of the Locust Lane Apts. He had broken a window in order to secure entrance into the premises. Apparently Alman was under the impression that he was en tering his fraternity when he broke into the building. In another case, Roger Phillips, sophomore in meteorology from Hyattsville, Md., was arrested for swinging on an awning in front of Danks & Co. early Sunday morning. He was ordered to pay a fine and the cost of the bent awning.
