THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1959 DU Gridders Upset DefendingliviChamp Delta Upsilon, sparked by the offensive performances of Jack Melchior and Jim Anderson, pulled the biggest IM grid upset of the year when they beat defending champion Phi Kappa Sigma, 14-7, in the firs DU's first score of the evening came on a 70-yard pass play from Melchior to Anderson. The DU receiver was off and running and scampered 60 yards for the touch down. Dave Hlay converted to make the score 7-0. Later in the game, Melchior hit baseballer Larry Beighey with a 25 ••d h - Br to - le' it Pete Moran for 15 yards and another DU score. Hlay again kicked the ex tra point. Despite the offensive work of Larry DiGiacinto, the Phi Kap pa Sig'c could not click. The 21-year-old West Point stu dent who comes from Detroit raced through for a try after only three minutes. He scored another try in the 53rd minute. Both tries—the equivalent of a touchdown in American football— were individual scoring bursts. Afterwards Dawkins said: "I enjoy this English rugger very much.
