PAGE FOUR Editorial Opinion Open Saturdays The Interfraternity Council will hear a proposal Mon day to modify its deferred rushing program. But the rec ommentiation will by no means solve all the rushing prob lems encountered by fraternities. The IFC Board of Control will recommend that fresh men be permitted in fraternities from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays. Present regulations allow freshmen in frater nities only during IFC-planned open houses. This recommendation should be acceptable to both sides in the rushing issue. It will allow Greeks to meet freshmen while not running into the expense of special meals during the formal rushing period. Open Saturday nights would give freshmen a chance to see more houses before formal rushing begins. It would also ease the problem limited social activities for fresh men. However, this proposal coupled with the present de ferred program still leaves many houses with a big ex pense problem. In edition to the concentrated seven weeks of formal rushing beginning in February, Greeks would have the extra expense of Saturday nights during the fall semester. The Open Saturday proposal should be adopted, but a closer look is now needed to evaluate deferred rushing's first year of operation. Hopes haven't been so high since the 1952 Presi dential elections. Maybe the Red Cross should move its facilities up to the vicin ity of Beaver Field for today's game. We wonder who walked by the obelisk that has graced Market St. in Harrisburg for the past 50 years. It ain't there no more. A gentleman tried to pay his check at the Corner Room this week and was told that checks over $lO couldn't be cashed un der any circumstances. His was for $lB and he was William Hen ning, the State's Secretary of Agriculture. Then there was the Collegian reporter that wrote seven stories about last week's Robert Frost lecture and forgot what time the program started Saturday night. And speaking of forgetting, the following answer appeared on a Psych 2 quiz: "1 forgot." The question: List the principles of forgetting. The girls in McKee Hall had a unique setup with the boys in Hamilton. The girls watched the Lion Shrine, with a phone line open to the Hamilton boys to warn them of Syracuse painters. Who is the guy that keeps the clocks in Boucke Building run ning', Some of the clocks are still on Daylight Savings time. Syracuse got a pretty bum sandblasting job if they paid $lO thousand for it. The buildings supposedly blasted to remove all the blue paint still looked pretty dirty. Better plan to get to the sta dium early this afternoon. If the administration carries out its threats to check matric cards closely, there's going to be a line clear down to College Ave. Imagine a line of 15,000! Maybe they'd better check fingerprints too. We understand that the flag pole in front of the Syracuse chapel was flying a "Beat Syra cuse" banner early yesterday morning. Overheard from two professors walking past the new wing of Sackett: "It's a shame. It looks like a factory." Could it be that the orange paint on the Lion shrine was an inside job to instill spirit at the beginning of this week? Protest Parking Rules TO THE EDITOR: We would like to add our protests against the unreasonable parking regu lations imposed by the Office of the Vice President for Busi ness Administration. These regulations have in creased congestion in the few areas in which student park ing is allowed—the Hetzel Un ion parking lot, especially in the evening, is the scene of chaotic narrow escapes, coeds nearly run over in the dark ness and drivers insisting on accelerating through the lot at full power, scattering pedes- _ trians.
