Guignol Productions
To 'Shock' Campus
The problems of a theatre production are greatly multi
plied in the experimental theatre production' which opens at
8 tonight at the Little Theatre in Old Main.
The three one-act plays are being produced in the style
of the Grand Guignol theatre, famous in Paris for its grue-1
some make up effects and criminal,
plays. Another performance will
be given at 8 p m. tomorrow.
As the Guignol theatre keeps,
its make up technique a secret,
the make up crew, headed by;
Carolyn Wenzel, has had to ex
periment with different make up'
bases, and objects found around
the house,
The crew decided to use a
latex and Kleenex base to build
up face distortions for such ef
fects as fatness and beastliness.
The face is In st coated with the
wet, sticky rubber material an ,
then dry Kleenex is added to giv :
the desired distortion.
The crew also needed a mixtur
to give "scarey" effect. They 01
dei ed a base called derma wa
which has been found very e
fective when used by mortician 1 1 '
Another problem was blood- ,
which the Guignol theatre mak
every day by the vat. The cre
ordered a pint of pancromat
blood, a heavy liquid the col :
of grape juice which when
dries looks and clots like real
blood.
The three plays being pro
duced are: "Weekend Cottage"
and "Coals of Fire," by Fred
erick Wilney, a British writer.
and "Sweeney Todd," adapted
by Marvin Katz, director.
