The true story of
The first Morrell's hoagie
It all began in 1872, when old Ebenezer Morrell first
read this poem by Lewis Carroll—
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes—and ships—and sealing wax—
Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
And whether pigs have wings."
Thus was born the first Morrell's hoagie s consisting of
slices of shoes, ships, wax, cabbages, kings, etc.—The
formula has been refined a bit since.

During the show and at the
awards banquet, held Saturday
at Penns Valley High School,
Miss Piercy presented awards.
The show was dedicated to the
memory of Dr. W. R. Davey, who
was assistant professor of dairy
science and advisor of the Dairy
Science Club until his death last
spring.
Judges for the show. were Dr.
Gilbert Porter. a former faculty
'member who is now research di
rector of the Beacon Milling Co.
in N.Y.; and Jack Fairchild, offi
cial Holstein Classifier for the
Holstein Assn.. in Bratleboro, Vt.
