Speakers
To Compete
In Contest
Six finalists will be chosen
in the elimination meetings of
the annual John Henry Friz
zell Extempore Speaking Con
test at 7 p.m. Monday in
Sparks.
The contest is sponsored by the
Department of Speech in honor
of Friziell, who was University
chaplain and professor and head
of the Department of Speech, He
retired in 1946 with the rank of
emeritus.
The contest has been held for
more than 75 years and is prob
ably the oldest speaking contest
in the country.
Fir 32 prize is $5O and the
John Henry Frizzell award of
merit. Second prize is 525 and
the award of merit.
At the elimination meeting each
entrant will speak without notes
ofr five minutes. The contestants
will be grouped in sections. One
person from each section will he
chosen to speak in the semi-finals
on the same evening. Six contes
tants will then be chosen for
the final round.
Each finalist will deliver a
speech other than the one used
in the previous meetings. The
finals will be held at 7 p.m. May
18, in 110 Electrical Engineering.
Last year's winners were: First
place, Vicki O'Donnell, senior in
arts and letters from Irwin, and
second place, Mary Ann Geminill.

Peter Click, junior in recreation
education from Pittsburgh, was
installed as the new president of
the B'nai B'rithllel Foundation
at the Awards and Installation
Service last evening.
Installed as members of the new
executive committee, together
with Glick, were Donald Lipson,
sophomore in arts and letters from
Bethlehem, men's vice president;
Marion Benefeld, junior in physi
cal education from Great Neck,
N.Y., women's vice president;
Myrna Glazer, junior in education
from Mapelwooct, N.Y., secretary;
and Margaret Weiss, sophomore
in psychology from McKeesport,
treasurer.
Eight elected members-at-large
are Rosalind Abes, Marvin Factor,
Barbara Fried, Lynda Goldberg,
Ilelen Gutman, Richard Haber,
Robert Harrison and Janet Leff,
Five students received the• Na
tional Hillel Honor Key, the high
est Hillel award. They are Nor
man Altman, James Apple, Mar
ian Camms, Sandra Grotsky, and
Linda Lowenthal. The Hillel Hon
or Pin was presented to Emily
}'eingerg, Reva Heller and Rhoda
Smulyan. The Graduating Senior
Book Award was presented to Iris
Hirschberg.
In honor of the graduating sen
iors and new officers, an Oneg
Shabbat reception was held by
Phi Sigma Delta fraternity follow
ing the service.

To pass inspection bicycles
should have sturdy handlebars
and tires and be generally safe,
police said.
If a bicycle is to be ridden at
night it must be equipped with
a horn and headlight,
There is a 25 cent charge for
Inspection and a 25 cent charge
for a license.
A $5 fine is charged for bicy
cles without a license.
