THE DAILY COLLEGIAN. STATE COLLEGE. PENNSYLVANIA
May Day
Spotlighted
By 2 Plays
Two Players° productions, "Iphi
genia at Aulis" and "The Boy
Friend," are being presented this
weekend for students, parents and
'the public.
"The Boy Friend," which opened
Thursday night in Schwab Audi
torium, is reminiscent of the flap
per era of the 1920'5. Written by
an Englishman, Sandy Wilson,
the show is a spoof on the music
and capers popular in England
and the United States during this
time.
Julie Andrews starred in the
musical when it played on Broad
way.
The new play. "Iphigenia at
Aulis," by Russell Graves is in
its third week at Center Stage.
The play is a retelling of the
old legend of the Trojan War and'
is written in the style of the mod
ern French playwriters. Part com
edy and part tragedy, it is told
in two acts, a prologue and an
epilogue.
The original one-piece set, de
qigned by Joseph Servello, senior
in art education from Altoona, is
in the form of simple blocks ar
ranged on levels to provide a dis
tinction between the Greek gods
and mortals of the time.
The author is a professor of
theatre arts at the University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill. This
is the first time his play has been
produced,
Tickets for both productions
which begin at 8 p.m. are avail
able at the Hetzel Union desk.
