PAGE EIGHT Sea Traffic Starts In St. Lawrence MONTREAL (IP)—A fleet of, ocean-going vessels tugged at an ehor last night awaiting the start of major sea commerce for the heartland of North America, up to 2400 miles from the Atlantic. The St. Lawrence Seaway, freed from winter's icy hold, opens today as a $475 million coopera tive venture financed by U.S. and Canadian taxpayers. Sixty salt water ships, dressed in flags, bunting and fresh paint, were anchored near Montreal to form part of the first convoy of long, deep-draft vessels to pass westward along the St Lawrence River. Fourteen more ships waited at Ogdensburg, N.Y., to join the fleet from almost every maritime nation. Prizes Total $6OO At Livestock Show Over $6OO worth of prizes will be awarded to students exhibit ing prize-winning livestock today in the Little International Live stock Show. The preliminary judging will begin at 8 am. to determine a champion in each division—beef cattle, sheep, swine and horses. The grand champion, a winner of the entire show, will be judged during Ihe afternoon. Demonstra tions will be given by the Wilson Six Horse Hitch and members of the animal husbandry school. Awards will be presented at the award banquet at 6:30 tonight in the HUB ballroom. Choir Director to Talk On 'A German Requiem' Willa Taylor, director of the Chapel Choir, will talk on Johan nes Brahm's "A German Requi em," at Vesper hours at 4:15 Mon day and Thursday in the Helen Eakin Eisenhower Chapel lounge. Brahms' "German Requiem" will be presented at the 12th an nual spring concert of the Chapel Choir and University Symphony on Thursday, May 14, in Schwab Auditorium. 72-Voice Choir to Sing At Junior High Today The 72-voice Edgewood a Cap pello Choir will present a concert at 3 p.m. today in the State Col lege Junior High School audi torium. Featured with the choir will he ''The Presidents," a Pittsburgh quartet. The choir, under the di rection of Jerry Sharman, is cur rently on a concert tour of the state. And for an hour it was hard to find an un happy child along the parade route. Only one float ran into bad luck. It was forced to stop in front of the Hetzel Union Build ing. However, the trouble was soon repaired and the float was able to finish. Many of the entries used a com bination of napkins, paper mache and real flowers.
