SGA
Executive Duties
By CATHY FLECK
First of a Series
Student government has come a long way since 1939
when the present executive-legislation branch was estab
lished. Its mistakes and good features both were taken into
account to formulate the new reorganization plan.
Approximately six weeks ago,
the new plan was presented to
All-University Cabinet. The plan
proposed the establishment of
three separate branches—execu
tive, legislative and judicial.
This was a revolutionary idea
since Cabinet members by ap
proving the plan put the power
now exercised by them into the
bands of students directly elect
ed through classes on a pro
rated scale.
Through this plan all executive
powers will be vested in the pres
ident of the Student Government
Association. Other SGA officers
will be the - vice president and
secretary-treasurer.
The SGA president would be
responsible for therproper admin
istration of student government.
A Cabinet composed of both
elected and appointed members
would advise him on ail issues
that come before the legislative
assembly.
The advisory Cabinet would
be composed of the SGA offi
cers and the presidents of Wo
men's Student Government As
sociation, the Association of In
dependent Men, Interfraternity
Council, Leonides, Panhellenic
Council and the Inter-College
Council Board. The president
may also appoint members from
time 'to time with the advice
and consent of the assembly.
The president would have the
power of veto over all acts of the
assembly w h i c h could be over
ridden by a two-thirds vote of
the assembly.
The executive branch would
also include a central secretariat

of the assembly.
