Cagers Crush Lehigh, 88-52
Dutviars
Paces Lions
In Scoring
By SANDY PADWE
Penn State's basketball team
rolled up an early first half lead
with a full court press and a tor
tid fast break, and then coasted
to an 88-52 win over Lehigh in
Recreation Hall last night.
Right after the opening tap the
Lions put the press on the Engi
neers and it worked to perfection.
Wally Colender stole the ball
from Arnie Balgalvis, Lehigh's
lop scorer, and passed to DuMars
-on the fast break for the first
taro -pointer,
Within the next two minutes
DuMars scored four more points
on fast breaks and the Lions
were ahead 6-0. Lehigh's fate
was sealed a few minutes later
when Bob Edwards connected
on a three-point play to give
the Nittanies an 11-1 bulge. Le
high never got close after that.
The Lions kept the press on
the Engineers and moved the
score to 45-20 at the half.
Relaxing the press a bit in the
second half, the Nittany zone de
fense then went into high gear
and held Lehigh without a field
goal for the first 11 minutes of
the second half,
John Debroda hit for Lehigh
cagers to break their dry spell,
but the Engineers were too far
behind to do anything.
Right after Debroda made his
shot, Penn State coach John Egli
pulled DuMars and Colender out
of the lineup and inserted Dick
Dibert and Mel Ramey.
DuMars left the game with 21
points while Colender left with
12. Both got a tremendous ova
tion from the 2000 persons in
attendance.
Colender still leads DuMars in
individual scoring race, 289-275.
But it was their playmaking that
had the crowd humming last
night.
Both set up many scoring plays
and they led the first half fast
break that buried the Engineers.
After the game, Lehigh coach
Tony Packer had nothing but

they have good scoring punch

The box lacrosse team differs
from the regulation team in that
it is composed of only 5 players

The game is played indoors
