Green Asks—Will You Accept Christ "Will you open the door to Christ when He knocks?" asked the Rev. Canon Bryan Green last night in his fourth lecture on "Basic Christian ity:: When he knocks we are some times afraid to answer, Green said, because we feel that He is someone who - will "depreciate the joy of living." The opposite is true, he said, for Christ, as God, is a saviour, master and friend to help us meet the pains of life. He increases our joy of life because he understands our loneliness, Green said. He wants to save us from moral des pair, Green said. The Canadian Players' presen tation of Shaw's "Devil's Disci iple" will be, as far as can be as certained, the first time a profes lsional company has toured North America with the play since 1901. It is considered one of Shaw's best plays, and he himself was very fond of it. It is the story of the American Revolution, set in the New England states in 1777. A profligate son, Richard Dudgeon—who refers to himself as the devil's disciple—is mis taken for a clergyman, arrested by the British troops and sen• tenced to be hanged. A major part of the story cen ters around the association be tween the real minister's wife, Judith, and the devil's disciple. In the play Shaw uses all his satirical wit to tear apart the hy jpocracy which existed in those days. He calls his play a melo !drama but it has all the humor and satire which makes his works !so popular. Around the principle figures he has placed a number lof excellent characterizations ( which enable him to poke fun at t all the things he found so amus hing in life. oal 41 , l oodmobile a 1 by 41 -re.donat ecause of 129 sched o, and 106 e second s donated .inator of first-time ,d 100 the knocks, Gre e n said, is often that part of your personality from which you exclude Him. You have never had a real Ch r i,s Ilan experience until Christ has "come over the threshold into your personal ity," Green said. "When does Christ knock?" Green asked. Many people think that He offers Himself only when there is misery or unhappiness. This, Green said, is "far from the truth." When real love and a complete sense of belonging is present, it "lifts you to want Christ," he said, and wanting Him, He will come to you. We pretend that He is already present In our lives and, therefore, that we do not need to listen. . Anothei' reason, Green said, is that the "door is bolted on the inside." We refuse to do the things that Christ would want us to do, Green said, and have locked the door to Him. When you accept Christ and let him become the "senior partner" in your life, Canon Green said, it "marks the beginning of a true Christian experience."
