Harriers Defeat
Manhattan, 23-33
The Nittany Lion cross-counthry team roared back from a 22-33 loss to Michigan State
to defeat a strong Manhattan squad, 23-33, Saturday on the wind-swept University golf
COll 1 SC
.The win over the Jaspers gave the Penn State Harriers a 4-1 record for the dual meet
season, with only the all-important IC4-A and NCAA meets remaining on the schedule.
Track Captain Ed Moran took
fist place honors for the thud
time this year, running the 5-mile
course in just 3.2 seconds less than
his lime two weeks ago against
Michigan State in spite of a strong
wind which cut several seconds
elf each iunnei's time.
Moran and Manhattan's Ed Mc-
Allister jockeyed for the lead for
the three inile„ but the sturdy
Penn State senior was too strong
Jur McAllister as he lengthened
the gap to nearly a quarter of a
Mlle at the tape.
McAllister gamely fought off
Lions Dick Engelbrink and
cross-country Captain Fred
Kerr to finish second. Several

Penn State's socce'r team will be out to break a two-game
losing streak this afternoon when it meets the Temple Owls
at Temple stadium in Philadelphia.
The Lions have dropped their last two games to Mary
land and Navy and now have a season record of 3-3. When
the Nittanies lost to Navy a week * * *
ago it marked the first time since
1932 that a Penn State soccer team
had lost three games in one sea
son.
In Temple, the Lions will be
facing one of the most improved
soccer teams in the East. Last
year the Owls had a dismal sea
son which included an 8-0 shel
lacking at the hands of the Lions.
So far this season they hold a•
6-2 slate. I{;?iitiM>

which expects to give the Lion
defense a rough time today.
The offense is led by high

the Temple forward wall and
last week against St. Josephs
he tallied four times.
Center forward Len Lucenko
and inside right Skippy Kellogg
are the other two main offensive
threats for Temple. Lucenko is
second in scoring
this year while
Kellogg is right behind him.
Temple's defense is led by right
half back Eugene Chyzowych.
Chyzowych is a good defensive
