If your ptisSyc:

week.
Next week is his 1 1
row begins "Cat W:
tional."
The cat has jump.d from 12th
to second place in iriority as a
pet.
Twenty-one milli n furry fe
lines now inh a b t American
homes—an average •f 1.2 cats per
family.
Working against a ti-cat preju
dices of perhaps ei:ht centuries,
the little mammal ha come a long
way since the days hen an in
different and ignora t public in
flicted numerous ac s of cruelty
on it.
The cat has elevatied his social
status from that of 1 a "pest" to
that of a positive c o ntributor to
modern civilization.
Besides catching those rascally
little rodents, the cat has a num
ber of other uses.
These include serving as a wit
ches' companion On Halloween,
crossing the paths of unfortunate
persons (only black cats serve
these two functions), keeping feet
warm on a winter night and put
ting presumptuous dogs in their
place.
Child psychologists even claim
that homes with cats rarely turn
out juvenile delinquents.

quality and content of the di
rection that went into the
show? In this writer's opinion,
Warren Smith is a director
who both understands Shaw
and has the theatrical sense to
put him across to the audience
—both of which tasks are quite
difficult.
And finally, while a critic
certainly has the privilege to
comment upon individual per
formances, I feel that I have
the privilege to disagree with
these comments.
