early rankings of major college
football teams, fell back on an old
reliable Monday-1957 champion
Auburn.*
Army's high- scoring team
climbed from fifth to third in
the ratings and Notre Dame
from seventh to fourth. They'll
settle their relative positions
when they meet next Saturday.
Auburn became the third team
in as many weeks to hold the
No. 1 spot. Ohio State, the pre
season pick, led the first weekly
poll, then Oklahoma moved up
