About Student Ventures:
Cost Low, Adventure
And Education High
Twenty-five years ago SITA
introduced the idea of making
student travel adventurous, edu
cational, and low in cost . . . do
ing away with the luxury frills
of deluxe travel, neither neces
sity nor in keeping with the spirit
of youth . . eliminating many
of the conventionalities of ordi
nary tourist travel. For these
were substituted adventure and
activity . . . a "doing" as well as
a "seeing." Projects and activi
ties that would not have been,
possible except with such groupsi
wet e carried out at costs far low
er than ever before.
As shocking as this robust newt
spirit of adventure may have been
to those steeped in the ideas of
conventional travel, it was suc
cessful beyond all measure. Bi
cycle tours ,motor tours, flatboat
and hiking tours, schooner trips,
camping, skiing, riding, ranch
ing, hosteling . • . Europe, the
West. Mexico, Hawaii, Japan,l
South American and Around the!
World . . . everywhere this new,
spit it of adventure caught on, so,
that it was not long before more'
students, teachers, and other
"young-minded" people had trav
eled with SITA than with any
other educational travel organi
zation. No higher compliment
could be paid to these unique
trips than the fact that members
joined year after year or urged
their friends to join. This, more
than anything else, has been the
reason for the unparalleled growth
of the SITA idea.
SITA trips are arranged for
either steamer or air. according !
to individual preference, time,
and budget. It is also possible to
go one way by teamer and return
by air ... the ideal arrangement,
as the trip back by steamer is
rarely as enjoyable as the trip
over. You can also go to Europe
now by flying "Around the
World' in 30-56 days at a cost of

Atomic Ship's
Launching May
Come in 1959
Latest word on the "atom
ship" or more properly, the nu
clear-powered Savannah is that
it will be launched probably in
May, 1959, with the first sailing
in late Fall of 1960. It can carry
an estimated 60 passengers, and
'candidates for accommodations
already have made themselves
known to the Maritime Admin
istration. There is no established
policy on this question of who
will make the first sailing,
inci
dentally.
Which brings up another point;
in the legislation providing for
the two superliners, an amend
ment was adopted in the Senate
that no government personnel,
including Congressmen, were to
be shown any favors, such as
free rides, special accommoda
, lions, etc., on these ships. If they
I traveled on the superliners, it
would be a paid trip, according
Ito the amendment.
When this got hack to the
House, via House - Senate con
::erees, however, this restriction
was delicately omitted, and as
the matter now stands, no such
ban will apply.

Rogal Travel Service of Harris
burg, parent firm of the newly
opened Penn State Travel, has
been extremely active in large
l
group movements by air and ship.l
It has served a number of corn
mercial firms, industries, organi
zations and institutions in this'
highly specialized travel field.
Among the clients served are
Girl Scouts of America, Bell Tele
-1 phone employee organizations,
Arthur Murray Dance Studios,
Brenner Motors, Sunbury Daily
Item, Radio Station WCMB of
Harrisburg, WBRE-TV of Wilkes
. Barre and many others.
Group travel for the organiza
tions served has included move
ment to Bermuda by both ship
and air, to Puerto Rico by air, to
Honolulu by chartered plane, to
Europe by both ship and air as
well as to several East Coast and
Florida resort areas. It has ar
ranged for large group move-,
ments throughout Europe by rail,
motorcoach and airlines.
The unusual complexities of ar
ranging for such group move
ments are rarely realized by the
layman. Aside from the varying
means of transportation which
must be scheduled, reserved and
ticketed there are the highly per
sonal desires of groups in terms
of class of hotel; roomg with or
without bath; much or little sight
seeing; planned entertainment;
availability of meeting rooms; no
Meals, some meals, all meals or
any combination of these; reser
vations for theatres, opera, ath
letic exhibitions, motorbikes, cars;
special treatment for hi gh l v
placed individuals; baggage hand
ling; tipping and taxes; passports,
visas and innoculations; health
cards, tourists cards, identifica
tion cards; financing of travel;
furnishing of multi-lingual
guides; special parties aboard
ship.
Penn State Travel, in arrang
ing for such group travel in this
area, is fortunate to have avail
able the facilities of the highly
skilled Harrisburg staff.

Wonderful Memories:
Planning Wisely Key
To Successful Trip
Whether you're going 100 miles
away or 1,000, for one weekend
or a few months, taking a trip is
the most exciting experience in
the world! It means coming back
home with a room full of souve
nirs, a book full of snapshots,
and a lifetime of wonderful mem
ories, if you plan it wisely.
That's the key word for a suc
cessful vacation or honeymoon—
planning. With so many places to
go in our wide, wide world to
day, and so many different ways
to get there, it's important to
know every detail ahead of time,
so disappointment, embarrass
ment and unforeseen expense
can't spoil your fun for a minute.
That's why an experienced globe
trotter won't step outside his;
home town without seeing his
travel agent first.
Having a travel agent sounds
like a mysterious and expensive,
luxury. But that's an old-fash
ioned idea, left over from decades
ago, when people didn't get vaca
tions every year, and cars and
planes couldn't take you so far, so
fast, and so inexpensively. Now
adays everybody travels, on vaca
tions, honeymoons and business.
And just as you go to doctors or
beauticians for the best in medi
cal or good grooming help, so you
go to a travel agent for the best
travel help.

See Your Travel Agent
Here's how the travel agent
makes his profit. All hotels, re
sorts, tours, sightseeing attrac
tions and carriers all over the
world allow a travel agent a
commission, a certain percentage
of the business he sends them.
This commission is pretty much
standard, so a travel agent won't
send you to a certain place be
cause he makes more money from
that particular sale; he'll advise
you purely on what he thinks
best for you. Fares and rates are
the same whether you obtain
them from your agent or directly.
The agent's fee is paid by the
companies, not added on your
bill.
In this spirit, Penn State's slo
gan is "You get extra Service at
no extra cost."
