Riese, whose twirling of late has been better than that of his more highly-regarded teammate, Cal Emery, picked up his fifth win of the year against one loss as he scattered seven hits—four of which were infield blows. He lost his shutout in the sever.th when, with one man down, opposing pitcher Ron Greenleese slammed a home run into the runway underneath the football stands in deep center field. Although he had ram on base in five of the nine innings, Riese was very effective as he passed only two and fanned 12, And on ly once—outside of the home run -41041. ...... • Is PENN STATE COLGATE AIIRH AIIRH Irewley.Th 4 2 IMnsellcet 4 0 1 1100vircsa 3 2 21/ohm.lf 4 8 0 Mitiley,lf I 1 21Ialper,e 4 0 2 Stiekler,e 4 0 It;ray,2b 4 0 1 Alloorcer 3 1 Willeepie.ss 4 0 1 Wittkinkrt 3 1 Otracy,lb 3 0 0 Exuly.3l) 4 0 1 Wignotat 4 0 1 4 11 oStaur*AkY.3b 3 0 0 Riese,p 3 0 ICpeenlevar.p 3 1 1 Lowenb'clf 0 0 0 Ilahn.p 0 0 a•Futler 1 0 0 Totals 33 7 9 Totals 34 1 7 a- lulls, grounded out fur Hahn 000 000 100-1 7 2 101 000 24.1-0 11 1 Colgate _ Peron State HlH—Rainey. Hoover hit a s solo job in the third and Baidy rapped his tri ple with two men on in the seventh. Penn State started its scoring in the first frame when Ron Rainey singled home Larry Feg ley who had reached base on an error. Hoover's shot down the left field line made it 2-0, but the Lions couldn't come up with an other scoring combination until the later innings. However. it wasn't that they didn't have a chance to .score, for they left 11 men on base over the first six frames. But the clutch hits weren't made until the seventh and eighth frames. Baidy provided the first clutch blow with his triple in the sev enth with Joe Moore and Dave Watkins on base. Moore had led off the inning with a walk and Watkins' sacrifice attempt had fouled up the Colgate defense, leaving both runners safe. Then Baidy was sent up to sacrifice, but after two vain bunting at tempts he rifled a Greenleese throw to deep left center., However the rally died when Gary Miller struck out and Riese's attempted bunt was turned into a double play catch ing Baidy at the plate.
