TUESDAY, MAY 13, 1958 Lion quarterback, who earned the "reckless" monicker with his daring escapades on the gridiron last fall, proved that Saturday afternoon on Beaver Field when he led the Whites to a 22-14 win over the Blues in the annual Blue-White grid classic. Lucas scored two touchdollns and passed for another as the in jury -riddled White sqliad edged its rebel teammates before 2000 football-starved fans. But it was the junior (to-be) signal caller's dazzling 65-yard touchdown run from a pass formation which left the crowd gasping. , The score was tied at 14-all with seven minutes left in the final stanza whin Lucas faded back to his own 45-yard line to pass. But finding no receivers open, he darted around left end, cut back sharply 10 yards from the scrimmage line to avoid three would-be tacklers, picked up some downfield blockir7, and sped into the end zone standing up. Chaffee's end run for the extra points (two for a run or pass, the new rule states) was anticlimactic Lucas started the White's on their victory trail in the early mo ments of the game after the Whites had taken possession of the ball on their own 45 (in ab sence of a kickoff)• Veteran Ed- THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE. PENNSYLVANIA die Caye broke away on a 40- yard gallop down the left side line and three plays later Lucas went over center for the first score. His pass to Bruce Gilmore for the PAT fell incomplete. Caye and Pat Botula, the other White first team half back, were injured later in the second quarter and didn't play the second half). Regular varsity field general Al Jacks, handling that role for the Blues, brought his team back into contention midway in the second period with an 8-yard aerial in the heart to halfback Dave Kasperian (who was easily the most impres sive back on the field). But Jacks' pass to Kerr for the Blues' extra point(s) was out of the end zone. Late in the third quarter, the Whites regained the lead when a Lucas punt was muffed by rookie Jim Pae on the Blues 15-yard marker. Several plays later Lucas hit Chaffee in the end zone. As for the Georgetown vic tories, Penn State had a rather easy time—winning the opener 2-0 behind the two-hit hurling of lefty Cal Emery and taking the nightcap 13-0 behind the one-hit pitching of diminutive Ron Riese. Emery, who now owns a 7-0 season record, was in serious trouble only once as he set the Hoyas down in order in four frames. Georgetown threatened in the second when they placed men on second and third (via a single, walk and wild pitch) points. The Blues tied it again early in ,the fourth period when Andy Moconyi bulled over left guard from 10 yards out after two large gains by Kasperian and a 20-yard Jacks to Jim Kerr aerial had set the play up. The Jacks-Kerr corn hination was good for the PAT, too, And that was all the scoring until Lucas' sparkling ,breakaway run. That's it! ...
