PAGE EIGHT Debaters Place High In Duquesne Meet The women's debate team took second place with a rec ord of 7-1 and the men's team won third place with a record of 6-2 in the Duquesne University tournament this weekend. Mary Ann Gemmill of the women's team was given the second place outstanding speaker award. Plan Initiated At HUB Desk For Lost Items A uniform program for the col lection and distribution of articles lost and found on the campus has been initiated. All articles found in campus buildings or on campus property should he turned in at the Hetzel Union desk. ' The only exception will be for those ai tides which are found in residence halls, where the super vising housekeeper will continue to receive such articles. The lat ter exception is made since most of the articles lost in residence halls belong to the students living there. Articles turned in at the HUB will be tagged, indicating the; finder's name and the date and , place the article was found. The finder will receive a duplicate of this tag. The article will he retained at tl,e HUB for 30 (lays if it has no name on it. If the article is not, claimed within 30 days, it will be' given to the finder or turned over to a charitable agency. Personnel at the HUB will phone ni send a post card to the owner if the article contains a name and address. Freshmen May Apply For Customs Board Applications for the Freshman Customs Board must be filed by Saturday. The women's negative team of Patricia Bilonich and Miss Gemmill defeated Kent State College, Mount Mercy College and the City College of New York. They lost to Georgetown School of Foreign Service. The men's affirmative team of Marshall Jacobson and William Dawson defeated the City Col lege of New York, Mount Mercy College and Georgetown, It lost to the University of Pittsburgh. The negative team of Alan Elms and Leonard Julius defeated the University of West Virginia, St. Vincent's College and Duquese University. It lost to Washington and Lee College. Robert Adams and Jay Feld stein of the men's team placed sixth with a record of 8-4 in the district seven elimination tourn ament at Kings College also this weekend. Adams and Feldstein were a 2-man switch team. They debated different sides in each debate. They defeated Duquesne Univer sity, LaSalle College, Villanova University and Bucknell Univer sity. They lost to Georgetown Col 'lege and the University of Penn sylvania. Susan Whittington and Virginia Fitzmartin of the women's debate team attended the Delta Sigma Rho, national debate honorary so ciety, Congress at Michigan State University. The Congress formed a model legislature, and considered the topic, "What should be done to meet the challenge to education posed by today's scientific strug gle?" ;Alums to Give 12 Scholarships A scholarship fund that will provide two $4OO scholarships has been established by the Class of 1908. The Board of Trustees at the weekend meeting of the Execu tive Committee accepted the pro visions of the scholarship which will be known as the Class of 1908 Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarships will be sup ported by income from the fund and they will be available to freshmen, with descendants of members of the Class of 1908 hav ing priority for the awards. Each of the awards may be renewed if the recipient continues to meet University requirements for the awards. The scholarships have been es tablished on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the gradua tion of the Class of 1908. 'Town Meeting' Hears Walker Education Talk President Eric A. Walker ad dressed a luncheon at the 1-day Town Meeting on Education Saturday at the Adelphia Hotel in Philadelphia. His topic was "The Time Is Now."
