Make Finals

Hat Styles Change
For New Fashions
Spring fashions call for a
change in hat styles, say exten
sion clothing specialists of the
University.
Soft, pliable hats of the same
fabric as the dress will be popu
lar. For the chemises a hat with
depth and • height will be best.
Most popular with this new dress
style are the-turban and cloche.
Off-the-face lines complement the
relaxed, loose fashions.
Bretons of all sizes, three-cor
nered hats, and wide-brimmed
hats with huge, colorful flowers
also are smart for spring.
Purses Resemble Envelopes
- The purses for spring have that
envelope shop e-•compact, tidy
and slim. The pint-size clutch bag
is popular in black patent leather,
printed linen Or bright blue calf.

Can Equal Disaster
Nothing could be more stylish than an orange-checked
chemise. And nothing could look more like spring than those
yummy flower-bedecked shoes. But put them together, and
the result is social catastrophe.

colors this season, but they don't
have to be worn with that old
standby, red, Try black patent
leather with navy, or wear dif
ferent shades of sand at the same
time, without matching dress to
bag, bag to shoes, and so on.
And speaking of red, too much
of it at one time can make you
look like a huge scarlet tomato.
Add accessories of black, string
or navy blue to provide relief.
Two of the season's favorite
colors also could receive awards
as being hardest to handle. Vivid
'pink and orange are both turning
up more and more frequently.
The trick with pink is to tone it
down, or you'll be lost in the blaze
of color. White, for instance,

Dr. Marjorie East, professor and
head of the Department of Home
Economics Education, will talk on
"Reality, Recognition and Rai
ment" at the ninth annual Home
Economics Spring Weekend April
18 and 19.
She will illustrate her talk on
the link between clothes and per
sonality.
Dr. East is the author of "Dis
play for Learning" and co-author
of a text for clothing and tex
tiles.
