Debators Score 4-2,
5-5 in Tournaments
Members of the Men's debate team compiled a 4-2 record
in the Boston University tournament and a 5-5 record at the
North-South tournament at the University of West Virginia.
The women’s debate team had a 5-5 record in the Capitol
Hill tournament at the University of Maryland.

and Mary College and Waynes- 1
burg College.
The negative team of Byron
La Van and Kermil Winkle
blech defeated the University
of West Virginia. Washington
and Jefferson University and
Concord University. They were
defeated by Richmond College.
The affirmative women’s team
consisting of Sandra Grotsky and
Carol Reed defeated Purdue Uni
versity. Merchant Marine Aca
demy, Ohio Wesleyan College and
the University of Maryland. They,
lost to Bradley College.
Arlene D'Onoirio and Vic
toria O'Donnell of the negative
team defeated Duke University.
They lost to Dennison College, j

All teams debated the national
topic, “Resolved: that compulsory
membership in a labor organiza
tion as a condition of employ
ment should be made illegal.”
Recovery Turbine
Given for Research
A power recovery turbine from
a Curtis-Wright turbo-compound
aircraft engine has been given to
the University by the Curtis-
Wright Corp., Wood Ridge, N.J.,
for use in research conducted un
der contract with the Office of
Naval Research.
Paul Ebaugh, assistant dean for
research in the College of Engi
neering and Architecture, said
that the turbine, valued at ap
proximately $5500, will be used;
in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering,
Jackson Awarded
Research Grant
Dr. Douglas N. Jackson, assis
tant professor of psychology, has
been named co-investigator in a
research grant for $3352 awarded
by the National Institute of Men
tal Health in the US. Public
Health Service.
Titled "Some Relationships be
tween Intellectual Abilities and
Personality Organizations,” the
study is designed to investigate
the extent to which personality
factors can account for intellec
tual performances.
Phys Ed Council
To Hold Banquet
The Physical Education Stu
dent Council of the College of
Physical Education and Athletics
will sponsor a banquet for faculty
and -’udents in the spring.
The council also will send out
questionnaires to get students’
opinions of items brought to the
attention of the council which
have included a complaint about
“out-of-date” pictures in Recrea
tion Hall.
