PAOF TWO Campus Asks ROTC Change; Lion Wants Later Frosh Hours The All-University Elections Committee heard something new in the way of political party planks this week —Campus party's platform suggestion that Reserve Officers' Training- . Young said he was told that steps could be taken toward mak ing the courses elective if students express- a df_ire for such a pro gram. Under the provisions of the Morrill Act, Young said, land grant schools as the University are required to offer military training to students. but it need not be mandatory. Several members of the Elec tions Committee said they felt the plank was outside the realm of political parties. The committee approved the plank by a 15-1-2 vote. A second plank was unanimously approved{ by the committee. It stated: 'We feel that no artificial pen alty should be imposed for tun excused absences from classes, with the exception of practicum courses." Campus party's plank on stu dent services included two sec tions.. One recommended that a commission be established to sot up a University check-cash ing service. This was approved unanimously. The second section originally proposed that a student insurance plan be initiated to provide addi tional accident and illness cover age for students. After discussion. Young agreed to committee sug gestions that the plank be changed to read: "We propose that the student government recommend to the University that a University-spon sored student insurance plan be initiated .." The revised plank was unanimously accepted. IFC to Debate Rotation Plan The controversial fraternity independent rotation system will be a subject of discussion at the Interfraternitv Council meeting, at 7:30 p:rn. Monday in the Het-' zel Union auditorium. Although there will be discus sion of the plan at the meeting. the council probably will not vote to favor or oppose the plan until a later meeting, James Hart, IFC president, said yesterday. Other business at the meeting will include a discussion of the value of freshman rushing lists given each year to fraternity rush ing chairmen.. and whether or not they should be continued.
