Fellowship to Hear
About Easter Music
Mrs. Mary Patterson, choir director of the Presbyterian
Church, will discuss “Easter in Music” at a meeting of the
United Student F ellowship at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Faith
Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Frederick Urbach, Sarah Bringman and Richard Allen
will present an faster skit, “The Terrible Meek” at 6:20 p.m.

Team will tell of their travels. ■
The annual Palm Sunday Com

Noonday prayer service will be
held at 12:45 p.m. Monday.
Mass will be celebrated at 6:30

The Wesley Foundation will
hold discussion classes at 9:30
a.m. tomorrow in the chapel.
The fourth and final meeting
of the series on Lutheranism will
be held at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at
the Lutheran Student Center. The
documentary film, “Harvest of the
Years” will be shown. A business
meeting will follow the discus
sion. Officers for the next school
year will be elected.
The Rev. Harold Whetstone,
missionary to Liberia for the past
six years, will show slides and
speak of his work at 7:30 p.m.

Ag Station
Opens New
Lab, Farm
The University Agricultural Ex
periment Station has opened a
new field research laboratory and
demonstration farm for the south
western part of the state.
Support for the operation of this
laboratory, and about 140 acres
of land between Ligonier and
Stahlstown on Route 381, West
moreland County, have been
made available to the University
through gifts from Mr. and Mrs.
Richard K. Mellon and Mr. and
Mrs. Alan M. Scaife and other
Pittsburgh people.
Farm to Serve Counties
Michael A. Farrell, University
vice president for -research and
director of the Agricultural Ex
periment Station, said that the re
search and demonstration farm
will serve the agricultural needs
and interests of 11 southwestern
counties.
This season Farrell said that
most of -the work would be con
cerned with getting the land into
tillable condition. In the begin
ning hay and grass will be the
main crops grown on the research
farm.
Farm Advisory-Committee
An advisory committee of farm
ers from the 11 counties served
by the farm will offer advice on
crops and farming practices to be
tested.
Projects will be directed by
staff members from the Depart
ment of Agronomy. Field lab
superintendent is Lewis D. Wis
singer, former assistant county
agricultural agent in Bedford
Cotmty.
Agriculture in southwestern
Pennsylvania is chiefly concerned
with providing grassland and
grass crops for beef and dairy
cattle and jheep. Fresh vegetables
and fruits are also raised.
Later research may include
vegetable studies by the Depart
ment of Horticulture.
