PAGE EIGHT Greek Sing Contest Judges Announced Judges for the Interfraternity-Panhellenic Councils Sing to be held March 26, 27 and 29 have been named by Gail Kleppinger and Thomas Hollander, co-chairmen of the sing. Judges for the preliminaries on March 26 are Dr. Gerald M. Torkelson, assistant professor of visual education; H. Den nis Sherk, co-ordinator of TV presentation, and Robert M. Koser, assistant registrar. Frater nities will participate in the pre-, liminaries from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on March 26 in Schwab Auditorium. The preliminary round for sor orities will be held from 6:30 101 9 p.m. on March 27 in Schwab ,Auditorium. Judges for that night are Mrs. A. William Hajjar, wife of A. William Hajjar, professor of architecture, and Bernard P. Tay lor, executive director of the Penn State Foundation. 3 Judges Named The winning choruses from each of the first two nights will com pete in the fianis which will be held at 7 p.m. on March 29. Three of the four judges for the finals have already been chosen. They! are Frank Gullo, associate pro-1 lessor of music, Mrs. E. Scott Ros-! coe, wife of E. Scott Roscoe, asso-i ciate professor of industrial engi neering, and Dr; Torkelson. Permanent trophies, rather than rotating trophies and plaques, which were given to winners in previous years, will be awarded to the winning fraternity and sor ority. Bronze plaques will be awarded to second-place winners in both the fraternity and sorority groups. . . In previous years, fraternities and sororities were required to win the sing for three consecutive years before they could obtain possession of a permanent trophy. Last year, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Kappa Alpha Theta won for the third consecutive year, and gained possession of the rotating trophies. The other selection may be of the oragnization's own choice and can be sung with or without piano ac companiment The required song for fraterni ties is the "Whiffenpoof Song," and for sororities, "Moments to Remember." Judging Basis Given Judging will be based on tone quality, intonation, interpretation and phrasing, balance of parts, diction and general effect. Twenty-two fraternities and 17 sororities will compete in the sing. Last year, 19 fraternities and 14 sororities entered. A meeting for all song directors will be held at 6:15 p.m. March 24 in 214, 215 and . 216 Hetzel Union. They will be briefed on details for the sing at that time. Attempts had been made by the sing co-chairmen to have either t the winners or finalists in the 'sing appear on WFBG-TV in Al- Itoona. This plan was abandoned because no response was received from the station, according to Hollander. Transfer Bill Introduced A bill was introduced in the state House of Representatives Tuesday wihch would permit of ficers or employes of the Uni versity to transfer to the state employes retirement system with full credit from the teachers' re tirement system.
