George S. Denithorne, director of Centre County Civil Defense, said in an interview that State College is a main evacuation center for the Central Division of Pennsylvania Civil Defense, and the University would play a large part in an emergency. Delta Sigma Loses $2OO To Looters During a crowded party Satur day night at Delta Sigma Phi, a number of outside "guests" over did their welcome by a few thefts and acts which resulted in dam ages of over $2OO to the house. Articles stolen included two topcoats worth about $6O each, a flag valued at about $75 and sev eral smaller items such as initia tion paddles and mugs. Hous• Damaged A soda-acid fire extinguisher was turned on in the second floor lobby, allowing the liquid to spray onto the walls and floor. Two legs were broken from an expensive piece of furniture. Bottles of beer were brought up to the first floor and allowed to spill onto the hardwood floors, damaging them. A brother in the house, Wayne Schlegel, sophomore in mechani cal engineering from Springfield, who reported the mishap, said the persons responsible remain un identified. Grange Lamp Stolen Aso on Saturday night, a lamp 'as stolen from the first floor lobby of Grange HaIL Maybell M. Spencer, hostess in Grange, said the lamp was taken sometime between 8:30 and 10. She does not know the value of the lamp, nor is there any indica tion as to who the guilty party might have been, she said. Rec Hall, University Food Ser vice would aid in feeding the' refugees and University commun-I ications facilities would be em ployed by Civil Defense workers. Students Affected Besides playing a direct part in, ' Civil Defense, students would be affected by various emergency! restrictions in an emergency. For at least the first 72 hours' following a disaster, no one would be allowed to use the highways out of State College. This would mean that students could not reach home for several days. In addition, students would not be permitted to call their home towns. Women to Relay However, a group of women un der the direction of Mrs. T. C. Benton, 226 South Bainard St., would be available to relay mes sages from and to students. Denithorne said that many pre parations can now be made by residence halls, fraternity houses and rooming houses. He said that each residence hall, fraternity house and rooming house should provide for emer gency supplies, such as water, ' flashlights, first-aid kits and bat- 1 tery-operated radios. Radios Necessary Battery-operated radios, Deni thorne said, should be available so that instructions may be re ceived in the event of a disaster. (These instructions would be is sued by stations in CONELRAD, the emergency communications program. Radio station WMAJ is a CON ELRAD station and would begin broadcasting Civil Defense in structions on the two CONEL RAD frequencies, 640 and 1240. Denithorne said that the coun try's Civil Defense program is not confined to military disasters. He said that the setup would serve in any large-scale emergency, such as blizzards, storms, floods and fires. CD Workers to Help He said Centre County's volun teer Civil Defense workers, each trained for his special job, would be available in any emergency. The University has its own pro gram .subordinate to the county unit. It is headed by Joseph In tome, associate in charge of driver training. A future article will deal with the University's Civil De fense setup. Walkers Leave For Caribbean President Eric A. Walker and Mrs. Walker left Friday morning for a 12-day Caribbean cruise. • The Walkers will return from their "last summer's vacation" in the middle of next week. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wilkinson of Bellefonte. The steamship Santa Paula, of the Grace Line, left from New York City. It will stop at Aruba and Curacao in the Netherlands West Indies, La Guaira, Venezue !Lti and Cartagena. Colombia. Postmen Find Strange Items In Mailboxes Ever drop your gloves down a mail chute while trying to mail a letter? Well, University post men have found everything from purses to sandwiches in the mail boxes. The $ll5 Postman Harry Breon discovered last week in the mail box near the Hetzel Union Build ing is the largest "find" yet. When Breon emptied the box he uncovered an open tan en v-elope that contained the mon ey. He turned it into the post office where it was claimed in about three hours by Bruce Miller, junior in science from Tioga. Miller had put the envelope in the box when he mailed some letters. Among the articles discovered by postmen are purses, gloves, caps, dollar bills, small change, sandwiches, candy, car keys, combs, fountain pens and pencils. The most unusual article found was the underwear sent down the chute in a women's dormitory. Students have also left things in the post office lobby. Everything is put in the post office lost and found department and held for 30 to 60 days. Money that is not claimed within the time limit becomes the property of the United States Post Office Department. Agriculture Group Honors 8 Frosh The Future Farmers of America will present 8 scholarship certifi cates to freshmen who attained an .average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester at their meeting at 7:30 tonight in 112 Buckout. Water to Be Turned Off For 30 Minutes Today The water on campus will be turned off from noon to 12:30 p.m. today, according to Robert H. James, power plant supervisor. James said the water will be turned off to enable workmen to remove the water meter for its regular cleaning. Leader, At Bus In addition to Governor George M. Leader, 15 prominent East Coast men have been selected to participate in the Col lege of Business Administration Career Day on March 14. These men will speak and conduct panel discussions from 2 until 4 p.m. on a topic related to their field. The Business Administration faculty suggests that students attend the panels closest to their realm of study. Governor Leader will speak atl 8 that night in Schwab Auditor-1 ium.
