PAGE SIX Lion Cagers Test Lehigh Tonight at Recreation Hall Penn State's inconsistent basketball team begins its final week of regularly-scheduled play at 8 tonight when it tests Lehigh's Engineers at Recreation Hall. The Lions are 14-9 on the season. After the Engineer contest, only Pitt remains. The Lions play Pitt Saturday night at Rec HalL Anxious to avenge a mid-season Engineer upset, 72-67, Coach John Egli will go with his 4 4 4- recently-formed starting crew. Ron Rainey and Torn Han cock will man the forward posts, nob Edwards will be at center. and Steve Baidy and either Captain Bob Leisher or Greg Schwendeman will play guard. Egli is expected to name his second guard shortly before game time. Both Baidy and Leisher are plagued by troublesome scoring slumps, Leisher's extending from the first Pittsburgh game. Since that time, the Lion captain has broken double figures only twice —he hit for 12 in the first Engi neer game and scored 13 against Penn. Baidy's slump, on the other hand, is of a recent nature. He has not hit twin figures since his 18- point output against West Vir ginia, Feb. 16. Egli admits that both Baidy and Leisher's inability to find the scoring range has hurt the cagers in their last three games. Of Leisher, he said: "He's go ing in for shots. but just isn't making them." He conceded that Leisher was not one of the best shots on the team. Egli said that tough defensive play may account for Baidy's slump. "They're (the opposition) afraid of him and put one of their best defensive men on him," he said. "They're playing him real tight" Engineer Coach Tony Packeri is expected to go with the same starting lineup that he used in the' first Lion tilt. Dan Nolan and Bob Roepke are expected to open at forward, Arnis Balgalvis at cen ter, and Bill LeClere and Tom Healy at guard. Reopke with 2.3 points, Healy with 19, and Balgalvis with 13, were the big Lehigh scorers in the first Lion game. Healy hit for seven points and Balgalvis for five in the overtime period. Of Lehigh, Egli said, "They're a pretty decent ball club. They bare a pretty good big man in Balgalvis. a big, strong kid who moves well in the pivot." Lehigh plays a moderate-speed ballgame, seldom using a fast; break, Egli said. The Engineersi will probably use a man-to-man' defense. An added highlight on tonight's game could be the contest for individual Lion scoring honors being waged by Ron Rainey and Bob Edwards. Rainey, the season long leader, holds a slight edge over Edwards, 345-313. Edwards, however, did not break into the starting lineup until the Christ mas Tournament at Richmond. Frosh Cagers Meet Altoona The Lion frosh basketball team may better the .500. mark for the first time this season when they encounter the Altoona Center cagers tonight at Recreation Hall Wally Colender. the Lion cubs' top scorer with 85 points in four tests, leads the Penn State quintet into the Altoona tilt. Colender has been the Lions' most valuable player, providing a strong board game in addition to his point-pro ducing ability. Either Larry Freedman or Mel Ramey will complete the Lion starting five. Freedman, a set shot artist, turned in his best game of the year against the Bisons. "CAMP COUNSELING POSITIONS" Camp Conrad•Weiser.
