Before anything can be done on'
the plan, he said the standards!
which the housing facilities must]
meet will have to be determined,
and an actual program for inspec-'
tion will have to be mapped out.
Simes said that the prime ob
ject of the inspection will be the
safety of students living down
town. The inspection will include
such considerations as fire pre
cautions and sanitary conditions,
as well as living and storage
space and other items.
Trustees Favor Plan
Cheviot,
shireh year-
The inspection of downtown
housing has been in a discussion
stage for some time. The Board'
of Trustees favors the plan, and
wants the dean of men's office:
to set up a list of approved hous-'
ing and require students living
downtown to live only in ap
proved quarters.
The dean of men's office cur
rently has a list of housing• fa
cilities which they have inspect
ed, on the request of the house
owner, and approved. Students
are not required to choose a room
which appears on the list, how
ever.
No Dissatisfaction Expressed
Simes emphasized that the in
spection has not been proposed
because of any dissatisfaction
with the overall housing sjtuation.
He termed downtown student
housing conditions "generally
very good," and indicated that
most downtown rooms are satis
factory.
There are currently 3400 stu
dents living in private rooming
houses in town. Students living in
fraternities number 2062, bring
ing the total to 5462. The ques
tion •of whether apartments will
be included in the inspection pro
gram has not as yet been decided,
Simes said.

Theatre Art Display
To Open Tomorrow
An exhibit showing the "Theatre Through the Arts" will
open tomorrow in the art gallery of the Hetzel Union
Building.
The exhibit will be disp
pre-Broadway presentation o
Raskin, which begins a six-week
end run at 8 p.m. tomorrow at
Center Stage.
Organized by the Department
of Theatre Arts, the display will
show the many facets of arts in
volved in the theatre. In produc
i g a play, arts are employed as
integrated accents to clarify and
to interpret action.
The theatre is unique in that
it embraces all the visual and
aural arts to the degree that they
are helpful in the presentation.
Creates Play Spirit
Although the place of the arts
in the theatre is intangible, the
use of color, line, form, rhythm,
light composition, and harmony
are all created by the spirit of the
play.
The theatre of today has de
veloped into such a complex means
of expression that its component
parts have become art forms in
itself.
Included in these parts are act
ing, directing, lighting, make-up,
costuming. properties, construc
tion, designing, public relations
d dance and music.
Displays to B, Used
All of these facets will be shown,
with the help of displays, models, '
masks, sketches, photographs.'
stage plans, poster, brochures and'
specially designed properties.
The exhibition will open offi-i
cially at the private party to be;
held following the premier per-I
formance of "One's a Crowd." Thel

only by invited guests of the De-
