'Upstairs Room' to Open
5 O'Clock Theatre Plays

“The Upstairs Room,” an original play by Patricia Pala-i
dino, sophomore in arts and letters from Mount Pleasant,
will be presented 1 today in the first 5 O’Clock Theatre pro
duction of the season.
The story concerns the conflicts in a family when the
mother of a young crippled teenage girl wants to remarry.
Included in the cast are Delmar
Hendricks as Mr. Mitchell; Eliza
beth Ives, Audrey; Susan Mort,
Melinda and Kathryn Kelleher,
Mrs. Tuttle.
The play will be directed by
George Cavey, graduate student
in theatre arts from Springfield.
Mark Wallace, graduate student
in theatre arts from Bristol, is
technical director.

Technical Crews Announced
For Center Stage Comedy
Technical crews for the pre-Broadway presentation of
Eugene Raskin’s comedy, “One’s a Crowd,” have been an
nounced by the director, Robert Reifsneider, associate pro-
fessor of theatre arts.
“One's a Crowd” will open a
5-weekend run at Center Stage
on Feb. 22.

Cavey was recently appointed
managing director of the 5
O’Clock Theatre.
The 5 O’clock Theatre was be
gun in 1949 as a function of the
Experimental Theatre to give
theatre arts students a chance to
see their scripts in production.
The plays are presented at
5 p.m. Tuesdays in the Little
Theatre in the basement of Old
Main. The productions usually
last only 25 minutes in order to
allow students to return' to the
dormitories in time for dinner.
The scripts are given either an
elaborate p r o d u c tion including
memorized lines, sets and cos
tumes or in a sketch type pro-j
duction in which the actors read!
from scripts and costumes and
sets are not used.
5 O’Clock Theatre is only one
branch of the Experimental Thea
tre which is a research division to
coordinate the work of the dif
ferent theatre arts groups.
Included in the work of the
Experimental Theatre this year
was the short course in comedy
which was presented last semes
ter.
Other phases include the new
play project “One’s A Crowd” by
Eugene Raskin which will open
Feb. 22 at Center Stage and the
presentation of the locally adapt
ed version of Mary Webb’s “Pre
cious Bane" by Warren Smith,
associate professor of theatre arts.
