Young Lutherans to Hear
Vesper Service Speaker
Dr. Mildred Winston from the Board of Education of the
United Lutheran Church in Washington, D.C., will discuss
that organization’s .student summer service program at the
vesper service at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Lutheran Stu
dent Center. j

He will work with the School
of Journalism and with the Col
lege of Agriculture in developing
the University’s new program in
agricultural journalism.

This program, which permits ai
student to complete the equiva
lent of a major in journalism
while' meeting the requirements
for a degree in agriculture, is in
tended for students who wish to
work on farm magazines, as farm
editors of newspapers or in spe
cial advertising positions requir
ing an understanding of both ag
riculture and journalism.
The demand for persons with
this combined training has far
exceeded the supply of trained
persons available.

concerned with the publication of
the Qu'arryville Sun and the
Christiana Local Ledger and con
ceived the idea for launching Lan
caster /Farming, a county-wide
farm paper in Lancaster County
which has had phenomenal suc
cess.
Arts Director
Sells Painting
A painting by Albert Christ-
Janer, director of the School of;
the Arts, has been purchased for
the permanent collection of the
Staten Island Institute of Arts
and Sciences.
Entitled “Staten Island Spirits,"
the work was selected for pur
chase from among paintings of 20
artists who participated in a
“painting bee” on Staten Island
last Fall.-
“Staten Island Spirits” is an ex
pressionist abstraction which in
dicates the masts of the ships and
the industrial machinery on the
docks near the St. George Termi
nal on the Island. Painted in a
mixed medium of tempera paint
and oil glazes, it creates a har
mony of cool colors relieved by
brilliant points of red and orange.
Among the other artists who
participated was Adolf Dehn, who
will serve on the Summer Session
faculty of the School of the Arts
at the University-

onstrate how to make cancer

Teacher Training School in Evan
ston.
He received his bachelor of sci
ence degree from the University
of Pennsylvania, his masters and
doctor of philosophy degrees from
Western Reserve University,
Cleveland, Ohio, and has done
other graduate work at the Uni
versity of Chicago and at North
western University.
