New Technology Courses
To Be Given at Centers
The University centers will offer three new associate
degree curriculums beginning next year.
The new two-year programs, which were approved
Thursday by the University Senate and on Saturday by the
Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, are medical
technology, productive technology, and surveying technology.
The medical technology pro
gram, which will become effec
tive Spring semester, offers a
combination of science courses
that satisfies requirements of the
Board of Registry of Medical
:Technologists.
Pre-Rush
Sessions
Scheduled
The introductory program to
spring sorority rushing will begin
tonight with Panhellenic Fireside
Chats in the three freshman
dormitories.
The chats will be held at 9:15
p.m. in the lounges of Thompson,'
Hall, Women's Budding, and Mc-'
Allister Hall. Freshmen will not.

be obligated to rush if they at
tend.
Panel I/
Four sorority women will pre
sent a panel discussion in each
chat. They will discuss the social
aspects of sorority life, sorority
ideals, and post-graduation ad
vantages of being a sorority mem
ber.
After the discussion. freshmen
will be able to participate in a
question and answer session. Re
freshments will be served.
Final hat society counseling
sessions on joining sororities will
be held tomorrow night_ Hat wom
en will discuss "How Can I Join
a Sorority" and will answer ques
tions on rushing.
To Meet in Frosh Dorms
The counseling sessions will be
held at 9:15 p.m. in the regular
counseling units of the freshman
dormitories.
The program will continue
Thursday with open chatter dates
in sorority suites. Attendance is
not compulsory, nor will women
attending be obligated to rush.
The open houses were estab
lished last year by the Panhel
lenic Council to give freshmen a
preview of rushing and to ac
quaint them with rushing pro
cedure.
Trustees Honor
Deceased Member
The Executive Committee of
the Board of Trustees of the Urd
versity Saturday adopted a reso
lution to put a remembrance of
the deceased John N. Forker, a
member of the Board since 1943,
on the records of the Board.
The resolution cites the Boards
grateful recognition of his in
valuable service and expresses
the sorrow of the trustees, faculty,
and staff at his passing.
Mr. Forker died Sept. 18.
Eng Council to Discuss
'Career Day' Possibility
Members of the Engineering
and Architecture Student Coun
cil will meet tonight to discuss
the possibility of having a "Ca
reer Dav" program similar to the
one used by the College of Busi
ness Administration.
The meeting will be held at
7p.m. in 218 Hetzel Union. It is
open to the public.
Graduate English Club
"Why We Laugh" wilt be the
subject of a lecture by Dr. Henry
A. Finch, associate professor of
philosophy, at 8 tonight in 214-
215 Hetzel Union.
He will speak at a meeting of
the Graduate English Club.

Upon completion of this pro
gram the student is awarded the
associate degree in medical tech
nology and may apply for entry
at any approved hospital. At the
end of at least 12 months' work
in a hospital training program,
the student is qualified to take
the examination for certification
as a medical technologist.
The surveying technology pro
gram is to provide a knowledge
of the elements of surveying as
applied to construction, land,
topographic, geodetic, city, and
photogrammetric surveys.

The surveying program is also
designed to develop trained per
sonnel who understand the rela
tion between the precision of
measurements and the interpreta
tion of data in addition to having
an appreciation of the skills and
equipment needed to make pre
cise measurements in the field of
surveying.
The production technology cur
riculum prepares its graduates for
employ meet in manufacturing
firms in those activities that are
associated with production man
agement.
It will accomplish this by
studies in basic engineering sci
ence, principles of methods analy
sis, motion study, time study,
wage payment, production, plan
ning and control, and quality con
trol. The first year's work will
provide a basic knowledge of in
dustrial processes and will en
able the student to do simple
drafting and perform routine
clerical and production functions.
Graduates Qualified
Students completing this course
will have a clear understanding of
the management controls re
quired to operate manufacturing
businesses. They should be quali
fied for work in computing stan
dards, laying out work-stations,
improving methods. writing job
descriptions. estimating costs, and
making routine calculations.
The programs of surveying tech
nology and production technology
will become effective Fall semes
, ter next year. Both will include
summer session courses.
