FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 14. 1956 Hosterman to Employ 'Wait and See' Attitude By LOU PRATO The "crying towel"—which is as necessary to many athletic coaches as a fraternity pin is to a coed—has never been part of soccer coach Ken Hosterman's equipment. Nothing has been added for 1956, either. Since the booters have been practicing for only two days, Hosterrnan has developed a "wait and see" attitude. "I have nine lettermen back from last season's undefeated team and several better-than average sophomores up from the, * * * freshman team," says Hosterman, "but I can not forget that I lost seven men including two-time All-American Dick Packer. If I can find a player who can do half the job Packer did I'd be set." Thirty-five candidates includ ing a few freshmen reported for Wednesday's opening practice session and a few more made their" initial appearance yester day. The rest of the squad is expected to show up as soon as their individual physical exam inations are completed. All of the letterwinners report ed Wednesday. Included in this group are Captain Steve Flam poris, Ward Hill, John Lawrence, Ralph Brower, Dave Davis, Tom Nute, Jim Hedberg, .Toni, Ben ford, and Harold Walt . Several non-lettermen from last year's team—i n c l u d i n g Jerry Bruce, Tony Tremonte, and Jim Edwards—have•also returned. Jim Litterio, a junior who sat out last year because of a brain concussion, is also back for another try. Hosterman is counting on Litterioto strength en the wing positions. Four transfer students from Ogontz Center are on hand and Hosterman feels that one or two of them might be a "find." Herb Hertner has been the most im pressive in the short time that the drills have been held. . . SOCCER SHORTS—Two of the sophomore booters on this year's team would probably qualify for a "traveling the furtherest dis tance" award (those kind that are given at high school reunions) if one was to be given ...
