PAGE TWO Brink's Jury Studies Models BOSTON (IP)—Jurors trying the eight Brink's robbery defen dants craned forward intently today as an FBI agent explained two large scale models of the North Terminal Garage and the Brink's Inc., office where a masked band stole $1,219.000 on Jan. 17, 1950. Special Agent Leo J. Gauth he supervised construction of the two three-dimensional models. He said such work was his FBI spe cialty. One model, an exterior of the garage on Terminal street in the garage end of Boston was built to a scale of one-eighth of an inch equals one foot, Gauthier said. The other, built to a scale of one-half inch to the foot, repre sented the second floor of the garage occupied by Brink's as it existed the night of the rob bery. The table top models were wheeled into the center of the courtroom space in front of the jury box. and as Gauthier point ed out various features, jurors leaned forward, and those in the rear row stood up to peer at the exhibits. The unusual Saturday session began promptly at 10 a.m. with Boston Police Detective John T. Hommel on the stand under cross examination by Paul T. Smith, chief defense counsel. Smith questioned Hommel about what he did after he found some strands of ropes on the Brink's floor around 8 or 8:30 on the night of the robbery. Hommel said he kept the rope in his possession and that he did not lay it out on the floor. Smith then moved to strike the rope as an exhibit, explain ing that a police photographer who testified earlier, said he took a picture of the rope Ice the floor - shortly before mid night. Judge Felix Forte denied the motion saying he would leave the point up to the jury. Hommel had testified concern ing a visored cap, strips of adhe sive tape and strands of rope he said he saw in the Brink's vault room when he answered the rob bery alarm. In notes to Washington, London, Paris and Moscow, the Adenauer government yesterday asked Rus sia to open new negotiations through diplomatic channels with the Western powers on German unification. The proposal offered to link Soviet ideas on a European se curity system and a disarmament agreement with German unifica tion in an effort to break the 11- year deadlock on the partition of Germany. It also mentioned British Prime Minister Eden's plan for a de militarized buffer zone along the Oder-Neisse line, East Germany's present eastern frontier, in an effort to convince the Soviet Union it would have no need to fear aggression from a united Germany. lauded President Dwight D.
