PAGE TWO HEc Faculty Disapproves Of Dishonesty Approach Department heads of the College of Home Economics yesterday expressed dislike of the “negative approach” of the letter sent to faculty members explaining the new academic honesty program. The department head also said they thought the program could be supplemented by faculty members through their lectures and office hours. ‘ ' ' One department head said the letter to the faculty could have had a “more diplomatic approach” by not putting all the responsi bility of academic honesty on the faculty. The student must learn the im portance of academic honesty to himself and find a place where it is important to him in his life, a department head said. She said this could be done through education. Cam* From Encampment The topic of academic honesty was brought up as a result of dis cussion of proposals from the 1955 Student Encampment, held last September at the Mont Alto For est School. The department heads, Dr. Grace M. Henderson, dean of the College, and student leaders in the College, including John Sea -stone, Student Council president, attended the informal meeting. Dr. Henderson said that the faculty of the College has been in formed and “will be going along with the new academic honesty plan." Discussion also led to why many students in the College are not allowed to keep examinations af ter they have been returned. Couldn't Keep Exams The majority of the students present said they were not al lowed to keep most of the cor rected examinations. Dr. Henderson and the majority of the department heads said they did not know of any such ruling, but several said they had been informed of such a ruling. Dr. Henderson said she and the department heads will look into the matter. Also discussed was the “over lapping of courses,” which some fgavcfi.a6cn/eaJU-tiatk WINSTON ■ When it comes to real tobacco flavor, college smokers are going for Winston! Dr. Henderson asked Barbara Larpenteur, senior in home eco nomics, Sally McKnight, junior in home economics, and Rhona Syn nestvedt, senior in home econom ics, and any other students pre sent to form a committee and re port to her on the findings of where overlapping occurs. Dorothy Stone, copy editor of The Daily Collegian and a mem ber of the Encampment Commit tee on Communications, explained the workings of that committee. Miss Stone said the committee proposed the establishment of a Board of Communications, which would take the place of the pre sent Board of Publications. Dr. Henderson asked Miss Stone to check on how the College's magazine, News and Views, could become a member of the proposed board. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN. STATE COLLEGE.
