PAGE EIGHT 45 Women to Participate In Orientation Counseling Approximately 45 women will participate in the counseling program set up to aid the es timated 500 new women students who will arrive for Orientation Week today. The counselors are members of Cwens, sophomore women's hat society; Chimes, jun ior women's hat society; Mortar Board and Scrolls, senior women's hat societies; and Alpha Lambda Delta, freshman women's scholastic honor society; as well as presidents of Women's Student Government Association, Women's Recreation Association, Leonides, and Panhellenic Council. The counseling program surroundings as quickly as p The presidents of the various women's organizations will help plan original skits to introduce new students to their activities. Alpha Lambda Delta members will explain the purposes of the society and encourage women to strive for scholastic achievements. Will Arrive Sept. 10 The counseling groups arrived on campus yesterday and are eat ing in McAllister Hall. Schedules for several Orienta tion Week activities have already been announced. A mixer for new students will be held in each wo men's dormitory at 8:30 tonight. Tomorrow through Thursday counselors will meet with new students at 10 p.m. in each dormi tory unit to instruct and answer questions. Carripus tours will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday by members of men's and women's hat societies. President Milton S. Eisenhower will extend a welcome address at a convocation to be held at 8.30 tomorrow night in Recreation Hall. Earl Seely, All-University president and town officials will also be introduced. Song-Period Planned A song-period, under the direc tion of Dr. Hummel Fishburn, pro fessor of music and music educa tion, and Frank Gullo, associate professor of music, will be held at 6:15 p.m. tomorrow in Schwab Auditorium. Members of WSGA will present skits to acquaint new students with the organization at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in Schwab Auditorium. A similar program will be pre sented at 6:45 Wednesday night in Schwab Auditorium under the auspices of Women's Recreation Association. The Starlight Dance, sponsored by Panhellenic Council and Inter fraternity Council, will be held at 8:30 Wednesday night on the ter race of the Hetzel Union Building. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the HUB ballroom. Jazz Club Plans To Present Kenton, Garner Concerts The Penn State Jazz Club plans to bring Stan Kenton, Erroll Gar ner, and other jazz stars to the campus this year. The club, founded last fall, sponsored its first concert with the Campus Chest when it brought Max Kaminsky to campus. Dave Brubeck and his Quartet, and Louis Armstrong and his All- Stars gave the two other concerts sponsored by the group. Theodore D. Richards, Jr., as sistant professor of agricultural extension, and two June grad uates decided to begin a Jazz Club last fall. Over 150 persons attended the first meeting to hear tape recordings of Stan Kenton's music. From this start the group elect ed officers and drew up a con stitution. Richards who was elect ed adviser, ' was re-elected last spring. During the year the group held jam sessions open to members and provided entertainment by local jazz groups after business meetings. WRA members will demonstrate techniques in bowling, archery, riflery, and other athletic games. Refreshments will be served. Leonides and the Association of In,dependent Men will sponsor the annual Dink Debut from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the HUB. Fun night will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in Recreation Hall for all students. Highlighting the program will be square dancing and gymnastic events.
