WD Will
President
Nominations for the office of West Hall Council president
will be held at 6:45 p.m. Monday in McKee Lounge, James
Kennedy, council president, announced Monday.
Only the president will be nominated, Kennedy added.
The remaining three officers—vice president, secretary, and
treasurer—will be appointed by the new president to serve
until these posts can be filled in 1
the fall.
Qualifications as set down by
the Association of Independent
Men's election code for candidates
for the post are as follows:
Two More Semesters
1. Candidates must have at
least two remaining semesters.
2. At the time of the election,
the candidate may not hold a
higher office in AIM.
3. He must be a resident of
West Dormitories.
4. Candidates must have an All-
University average of not less
than 1.0.
Kennedy said voting for the
nominees will be done by secret
ballots by council members and
that only council members may
nominate candidates.
During the business session,
council voted 8-4 to continue
mixed dinners in Waring Dining
Halls despite poor coed atten
dance.
Mixed Dinners
Frank Simoket, sixth semester
electrical engineering major, made
a motion that council sponsor two
mixed 'dinners at dates suitable
to food service department. Un
der his motion, the coeds will dine
with men of the Tri-Dorms ,and
McKee Hall one week and the
men of Hamilton Hall the other.
In the past mixed dinners were
held in all dining halls at the
same time.
In other business the council
voted to have a tea in Waring
Lounge for all visitors to the West
Dorm area on Mother's Day, May
8. A vote of 6-5 defeated a motion
to have separate teas ist the area's
three small lounges.
Kennedy warned against the
dangers of setting off „fireworks.
"Not only are they outlawed by
the University, but also by the
state," he said.
Council to Discuss
MI Open House
The Mineral Industries Student
Council will meet at 6:45 tomor
row night in 209 Willard to dis
cuss the Centennial open house
on April 29. Faculty members
have been invited to the meeting.
Council will also discuss the
possibility of a mixer with the
Home Economics college. •
Edwin Tocker, council presi
dent, has announced that elections
for next year's Council will be
held in the near future.
TIM Meeting Canceled
For Lack of Quorum
The meeting of Town Indepen
dent Men schedulec. for last night
was cancelled by TIM president
Ray Rubner because of a lack of
a quorum. Twelve men attended
the meeting, but only ten were
voting members. The TIM consti
tution requires half the voting
members be present for a quorum.
Rubner has called a meeting of
TIM for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in 103
Willard.

nual occurrence. One, in the
spring of 1952, developed into a
full scale panty raid at a time
when such raids were breaking
out at campuses across the coun
try. About 2000 to 3000 men par

ROTC Common Hour
Will Not Affect Classes
The change of the Reserve
Officers Training Corps Com
mon Hour for all branches of
the service to Thursday after
noon will have no effect on the
scheduling of classes, Ray V.
Watkins, College Scheduling
Officer, said yesterday.
Few classes are scheduled
for Thursday afternoons, he
said, and it will be up to the
individual male student to
make sure he doesn't schedule
a class that will conflict with
his common hour.

Budget Raise—

is now operating under, that of
1953-55, the University received
$20,089,000 for maintenance and
$411,000 for special projects,
making a total budget of $21.5
million.
The Commonwealth's contribu
tion to the University's total bud
get for 1953-54 amounted to 38.3
per cent of the University's total
income. The second largest con
tribution, amounting to 30.9 per
cent, came from student fees and
payments received for auxiliary
expenses.
Appropriations for the Univer
sity do not easily go through the
General Assembly. In 1951, for
example, Gov. John S. Fine sub
mitted a request for the Univer
sity for $l6 million in March. The
House increased this by $1.5 mil
lion, then the Senate knocked the
increase off. The bill finally
passed the General Assembly 10
months later with the increase
included.

YOU'LL GET A BANG out of the Droodle above. The title is: Daredevil enjoy
ing better-tasting Lucky just before being shot from cannon. Luckies are
going great guns everywhere. The reason for their booming popularity is
simply this: Luckies give you better taste. They, taste better, first of all,
because Lucky Strike means fine tobacco. Then, that tobacco is toasted
to taste better. "It's Toasted"—the famous Lucky Strike process—tones up
Luckies' light, mild, good-tasting tobacco to make it taste even better . . .
cleaner, fresher, smoother. Enjoy yourself when you smoke. Have a little
fun. Light up the better-tasting cigarette . . . Lucky Strike.
