'Miss America' Visits Borou
Frisco Coed
Signs Pictures
By JOE BEAU-SEIGNEUR
A brunette, blue-grey eyed
coed breezed into State Col
lege yesterday in a fleet of
new Nashes, giving a happy
"hello" and smile to all who
ventured into the Wolf Furniture
Store. The coed is Lee Ann Meri
wether, Miss America.
"I'm a sophomore at City Col
lege of San Francisco." she said,
while autographing pictures for
the people who had swarmed
around her. "I've been on tour
for my four sponsors for seven
months now, but I hope to get
back to school by next February."
Miss Meriwether is an English
major, specializing in radio and
television work, and has a schol
arship to the College. She is a
resident of San Francisco.
"I'd like to go into dramatics
when I graduate," she said: Miss
Meriwether appeared on the Phil
co Television Playhouse last De
cember, and her acting got
,ex
cellent reviews from eight of the
television critics for major news
papers in New York City. 'lt was
lots of fun," she said, "and I also
got a chance to see my Mother
and brother—l haven't been home
since October.
On campus Miss Meriwether is
a member of Delta Psi sorority
and a member of the national
dramatics honorary. "I surprised
myself by getting better grades
in college than I did in high
school," she said.
Miss Meriwether said she had
been following the San Francisco
Dons' basketball team through
out her tour. "Right now the team
and the campus paper are my only
touch with campus," she said.
About fifty pictures later, Miss
Meriwether took a break. "Some
times I wish I had a shorter
name," she said. "My eight hour
working day is about sixteen
hours sometimes, but I love it,"
she said.

Library-
(Continued from page one)
The library has approximately
400,000 books in circulation at this
time, and is trying to increase
the variety of books offered, Mc-
Comb said. The trouble with try
ing to buy new boks is that there
are always old books to replace,
and they come first, he said. "We
never know whether to replace a
book or wait and see if it is re
turned," he said.
When asked how the library
compares with other university
libraries, McComb said it is slow.
ly coming into its own, but there
is still a long way to go.
"Of course, We can't 'ompare
universities with medical and
law schools," he said, "but among
the institutions similar to ours,
we are holding our own." The
University's library got a very
late start and is just now getting
on its feet, McCornb stated.
McComb said the library staff
realizes there is much that can
be improved, and welcomes con
structive criticism from students
and faculty members. The light
ing system and increased help
are among the chief needs of the
library at this moment, he said.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE, you'll get more pleasure from
your cigarette if it's a Lucky Strike. That's the point of the
Droodle above, titled: Three deep-sea divers enjoying Luckies,
You get deep-down smoking enjoyment from Luckies because
they taste better. Why do they taste better? That's easy to
fathom. First of all, Lucky Strike means fine tobacco. Then,
that tobacco is toasted to taste better. "It's Toasted"—the
famous Lucky Strike process—tones up Luckies' light, mild,
good-tasting tobacco to make it taste even better . . . cleaner,
fresher, smoother. So, when it's light-up time, light up the
better-tasting cigarette . . . Lucky Strike.
