S'X NCAA Mat Tilt Will Open Friday In less than a week, collegiate wrestlers from every corner of the United States will begin to converge en masse on the Cornell University campus at Ithaca, New York—the scene of the 1955 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournament. Al though Penn State’s entire wrestling team—which surged to a second-place showing last week in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association tourney only to lose the title to Pitt’s defending EIWA champs has been maintaining a strict training schedule, the question of who will make the trip for the Lions still is not decided. Last year the Lions chalked up a third place rating in the NCAA battle staged at Norman, Okla. Oklahoma A& M dominated the championship tourney by earning three champions and a total of 32 points to walk off with the title and snap the Lions’ reipn as National champions. Pitt was second with 17, followed by the Lions with 13. The state of Oklahoma has been well represented in the past by Oklahoma University and Ok lahoma A&M both of which have combined their efforts to monopolize NCAA and individual crowns for the last 24 years. Unlike the East where only eight weight divisions are set up for dual meet contests, wrestlers may take their pick of 115, 123, 130, 137, 147, 157, 167, 177, 191, and heavyweight in the nationals. Penn State, Pitt, Lehigh, Navy, and Syracuse entered 20 matmen last year but only fifty per cent weathered the two-day grind to come back with any kind of hon ors.
