PAGE EIGHT Kentucky Blasts Lions, Arnelle Leads Cagers In Final NCAA Contest The Penn State basketball team, jarred rudely by lowa Friday night, suffered its second defeat in the National Col legiate Athletic Association Saturday in the consolation round of the regional finals at Evanston, Illinois. The Lions dropped an 84-59 verdict to a favored Univer sity of Kentucky quintet. Although they showed more fight against the Wildcats than against the Hawkeyes on the previous night, the Lions were never in contention, even with center Jesse Arnelle back in form after a poor showing agains* Tow* Th? T ’or> But even with Arnelle hitting again, the Nittanies found them selves outmanned by coach Adolph Rupp’s team which had been upset by Marquette in the opening round. The Wildcats, ranked second in the nation by the Associated Press, opened fast and piled on a 6to lead before Arnelle scored on a driving layup to make the score 6-2. The Lions played the Kentuck ians even throughout most of the first half and trailed 13-11 with seven minutes remaining. Then the Wildcats, led by Bob Burrow, began to pull away and led by 12 points, 40-28, at intermission. Cals Open Quickly The Wildcats, however, opened quickly in the second half and used a good outside shooting game to build their lead to 49-32.
