ACCORDING TO THE-LARGEST and latest coast-to-coast
college survey, college smokers prefer Luckies—and
by a wide margin. The No. 1 reason: Luckies taste
better. Thousands of students appreciate Luckies'
better taste almost as much as the pair in the Droodle
above, titled: Sweethearts attempting to kiss and
enjoy better-tasting Luckies at same time. Luckies
taste better for good reasons. First of all, Lucky
Strike means fine tobacco. Then, "It's Toasted" to
taste better. This famous Lucky Strike process tones
up Luckies' light, good-tasting tobacco to make it
taste even better—cleaner, fresher, smoother. So,
enjoy the better-tasting cigarette . . . Lucky Strike.

(Continued from page one)
a report declaring Macßae was
"not a subversive person."
Macßae was. then reinstated by
the University in December, 1952,
when the executive board of the
University Board of Trustees de
cided he was "completely loyal."
The Academic Freedom Com
mittee said Macßae was cited
because of his "position in refus
ing to fill out a loyalty question
naire and . . . exposition of his
principles for such refusal (which)
led to improved academic due
process at his college and ser
iously tested the basic philosophy
of the Pechan Act in Pennsyl

Stoddard was cited_ by the corn
' inittee for persisting even to the
point of discharge from position
as president of the University of
!Illinois in resisting political in
terference in matters of educa
tional policy.
Others cited by the committee
were John A. Mackay, president
of Princeton Theological. Semin
ary; Robert M. Hutchins, president
of the Fund for the Republic;
Walter Van Tilburg Clark, author
and lecturer in English at the
University of Nevada; and the
Very Reverend James A. Pike,
dean of the Cathedral of Saint
John the Devine in New York.
Rev. Pike spoke before Chapel
earlier this semester. He was cited
for refusing to deliver a bacca
laureate address and to accept an
honorary degree at the Unviersity
of the South, because of that insti
tution's discriminatory policy.
