PAGE EIGHT ote rs (Continue cZ from page one) sure in the early decades of the 18th century. Malachi set up camp near a small. Indian tribe. Love entered the picture when the chief al lowed the trader free access to the Indians' camp. Boyer saw the chief's daughter, Nita-Nee, and fell in love with the beautiful girl. According to tribal custom, an Indian maiden and a white man could not marry. So the two lov ers did what Hollywood always has two lovers do. They ran away on a dark, moonless night. Lovers Are Pursued When the chief discovered that his daughter was gone he sent her seven stalwart brothers after her. Love did not triumph in this case. The brothers caught up with the hapless pair and surrounded Mal achi and his love. One of the brothers was killed in the battle that ensued, but Malachi was soon overpowered. The brothers, who now numbered six, forced the trader into the deep recesses of Pen's Cave, which is a dozen miles from State College. Refusing to give the Indians the satisfaction of seeing him die, Malachi crawled back into the cave, calling plaintively to his maiden, "Nita-Neeeeee, Nita-Nee eeee." To this day, it is said, that his voice can be heard calling to his lost love. With such a sad ending Holly wood would probably turn down the script. But this, we repeat, is the second part of the story as to how Mt. Nittany got its name. Believe it if you will.
