Frosh to Doff Dinks Soon

Freshmen will be identified
by blue instead of the custom
ary green when customs go in
to effect at 8 a.m. Sept. 20.
Freshman men and women
will wear blue dinks with the
University seal as part of the dress
dress customs for this year.
Freshmen will also be required
to wear 5 by 8-inch namecards
with their name, home town, and
major for the two weeks customs
are in effect. The lettering must
be at least one and one-half inch
es high.
Enforcement of customs,
which were established by
Freshman Customs Board, will
be done by upperclass men and
women. Upperclass men will
enforce men's customs and up
perclass women will _ enforce
women's customs. On joint en
forcement days, decreed by
Freshman Customs Board, up
perclassmen of either sex may
enforce customs on both men
and women.
Freshman Customs Board has
the sole power to interpret cus
toms regulations subject to re
view by the Senate committee on
student affairs subcommittee on
discipline.
Customs violations will be
tried by the eighl-m ember
board. Violations must be re
ported by upperclassmen in the
form of a written and signed
charge.
Appeals of the decisions of the
board can be made to Tribunal,
men’s judiciary body, or to Fresh
man Regulations Board w h ere
coeds are involved. The decisions
of these two-judiciary bodies are
subject to review by the Senate
discipline subcommittee.
Freshman Customs Board is
composed of three sophomore men
and three sophomore women with
a junior man and junior woman
acting as co-chairmen. This year’s
co-chairmen are Ann Lederman
and Hugh Cline.
Dress customs will be worn
at all times except from 5:30
p.m. Friday until 7:00 a.m. Mon
day. However, customs must be
worn on Saturdays until noon
and at all intercollegiate ath
letic events. Dress customs must
also be worn in dining halls.
Dress customs can be purchased
at the Book Exchange in the
Temporary Union Building where
the purchaser’s na m e will be
checked off a master list.
Freshmen must attend all meet
ings during Orientation Week
and must not leave these meet
ings until they are closed. They
are required to know the names
and locations of campus build
ings, the name of the dean of their
College, and the name of the
President of the University by
the first day of classes.
Attendance at specified home
athletic games is required of
freshmen. Frosh will sit as a
group in . a section assigned to
them by the Freshman Customs
Board. They will be required to
conduct themselves in an orderly
manner and show respect for the
safety of students and guests of
the University as well as for
University property.
Freshmen must be able to
recite the University songs and
cheers at the request of upper
classmen. The Student Hand
book, or "Freshman Bi b 1 e,"
must be carried at all times,
, and the identification page of
the book must be filled out

Freshmen will be allowed to
date from Sunday through Thurs
day until 5:30 p.m. and Friday
and Saturday until 11 p.m. and 1
a.m. During the customs period
women must be in by 9:15 p.m.
Sunday through Thursday.
Freshman women will be al
lowed to date in the lounges of
McKee, Hamilton, and Irvin halls,
and the recreation rooms of A
Level in McKee and Hamilton
halls between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.
on Fridays, 2 p.m. and 1 a.m. Sat
urdays, and 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Sundays. The dating code applies
only to weekends.

When passing the Old Willow
on the east side of the Mall, fresh
man men must bow and dof£ -.their
dinks and freshman
curtsy. Freshmen are required to
use only the east side of the Mall.
The diagonal walks extending
from the front of Old Main and
the east side of the Mall are “Hel
lo” walks. Freshmen must say
“Hello” to all persons they pass
while using those walks.
Senior Walk, extending, along
College avenue from the Allen
street gate to the Pugh street
gate, is “out of bounds” to fresh
men. This also includes the wall
adjacent to the walk. No frosh
will be allowed to walk on the
grass or any unpaved shortcuts
on campus.
Freshman men are not permit
ted, to place their hands in their
pockets when strolling or loung
ing on campus or in town. Smok
ing on campus is also prohibited.
High school athletic awards
or letters will not be wor.n oh
sweaiers on campus by frosh.-
The Penn State "S" is the only.,
athletic award that may be
worn.
Students over 21 must appear
personally before the Freshman
Customs Board for exemptions
from customs. No immunities may
be granted to freshmen by upper
