wonderful singing, dancing, and
stage presence, sweeps over the
stage and immediately captures
the audience's fancy. Her best
song is "Evelina" which she sings
with her Southern gallant, Al
Beliasov.
Beliasov Voice Good
Beliasov, who has an admir
able voice, shines •in parts where
any humor is possible, but he
doesn't seem to fit the role of a
romantic Southern gentleman.
Two bad features, constantly
appearing in Thespian shows,
also stand out in "Bloomer Girl."
It seems a shame that an orchestra
of more quality and depth can
not be found, for the music plays
a large part in setting the mood
and atmosphere of the various
scenes. This is especially perti
nent in the overture which is in
adequately handled by Thespians'
musicians. However, both orches
tra and actors stand out in the
Civil War sketch which takes
place in front of the curtain.
Dancing Is Poor
The other major poor thing
about the show is the dancing.
Either the routines are too diffi
cult for Thespians or they are not
practiced enough.
Renee Rogoff is outstanding in
her portrayal of Dolly Bloomer,
the leader of the women's rights
movement and advocate of politi
cal and social reform. When she
is on stage, the show has some of
its swiftest and most light-heart
ed moments, as in "Grandma Was
a Lady," probably one of the best
songs presented.
Other admirable performances
were turned in by Charles Sciotto
and Pat Farber, who play the hoop
magnate and his wife. Going
along with them is "Sunday in
Cicero Falls," a melody of warmth
and spirit at the beginning of
the second act.
Elsie Ford, as Daisy, a maid,
has again found a part suitable
to her comic antics. However, her
