Panhellenic Council
Elects 3 Officers
Panhellenic Council last night elected Polly Moore, Delta Gam
ma, corresponding secretary; Barbara Woodward, Kappa Delta, re
cording secretary; and Nina Finkle, Alpha Epsilon Phi, treasurer.
Miss Moore and Miss Woodward automatically became officers
when their nominations went unopposed at the meeting last week.
Miss Finkle defeated Lillian Du
vall for the treasurer.
Wendel Successor
Louise Moreman of Delta Zeta,
council - vice president, will suc
ceed Ellen Wandel as president.
Joanne Caruso of Delta Delta
Delta was elected vice president
by the executive committee- last
week. The new officers will be
installed at a banquet Tuesday.
Appointments announced last
night by Miss Wandel were rush
ing chairman, Norma Reck, Zeta
Tau Alpha; philantrophy, Rosalie
Maiorano, Beta Sigma Omicron;
parliamentarian, Barbara Men
senger, Delta Delta Delta; scholar

Frosh Talks Planned
The council also approved the
recommendation by Jane Bishop,
Panhel firesides chairman, to hold
the fireside discussions for fresh
men again in the first of the sec
ond semester next year. The last
of the present series was held
last night.
All sororities not participating
in the Interfraternity-P anh e 1
Council Sing on March 24 will be
required to send five delegates to
the Women's Student Govern
ment Association convocation on
that night. The convocation, con
sisting of a speaker, installation
of officers, and a coffee hour,
will be held at 7 p.m. in Simmons
lounge.
Phi Sigma Kappa
Honors Who Hand
Judge James J. Milholland,
president of the board of trustees
of the University, received the
Phi Sigma Kappa outstanding
alumnus award at a Founder's
Day dinner Monday night.
Judge Milholland, who wa s
graduated from the University in
1911, received an engraved watch
from the chapter. He gave a short
speech.
Guests at the dinner included

Pennoyer English, professor of
wildlife management and chapter
adviser; A. C. St. Clair, director
of purchases and former chapter
adviser; adn Harrison Harner, for

Canterbury. Club to Hold
Weekly Lenten Breakfast
The Canterbury Club, student
group at St. Andrew's Episcopal
Church, is sponsoring a breakfast
from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. every
Sunday during Lent.

The fraternity recently enter
tained Gamma Phi Beta at the
chapter house. Fraternity pledges
provided entertainment.
Graduate Coffee Hour Phi Kappa Sigma
The breakfasts will be held in
the parish house for persons at
tending the 9:15 a.m. or the 10:45
a.m. church services.
To Be Heed Today
The fourth in a series of coffee
hours for graduate students, spon
sored by the Penn State Christian
Association, will be held from 3
to 5 p.m. today in 304 Old Main.

Pevner-Mazin
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mazin of
Philadelphia announce the mar
riage of their daughter Eleanor to
Milton Pevner, son of Mr. and Mrs.
S. Pevner of Philadelphia. The
wedding took place Jan. 31.
Mrs. Pevner was , graduated from
the University in January, 1953.
She is now teaching in the Phila
delphia school system.
Mr. Pe vn e r is presently en
rolled as a senior at the Temple
University Dental School. He is
a member of Sigma Epsilon Delta,
dental fraternity.
Winterburn-Weber
Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Weber of
Wernersville announce the mar
riage of their daughter Dawn to
William Winterburn, son of Mr.
and Mrs: Ralph A. Winterburn of
Pittsburgh.
The wedding took place Jan.
30 in Reading.
Mrs. Winterburn, seventh se
mester home economics major, is
a member of Alpha Xi Delta.
Mr. Winterburn is a graduate
assistant in mineral industries and
a member of Delta Upsilon and
Parmi Nous.
They are now residing in State
College.

Leonides Names
Two Candidates
For President
Joyce Shusman and Betty Bu
chanan will run for president of
Leonides, independent women's
organization, in the elections April
1.
Other . nominations made at the
Leonides Council meeting Mon
day night are Helen Spagnola and
Loa Packard for vice president;
Sara Jane Henry, Ruth Oram, Jo
anne Eddy, and Loretta Hunter
for recording secretary; and Cou r
stance Taylor and Peggy Trevor
row for corresponding secretary.
Campaigning for the elections
will begin March 26, according to
Hilda Hogeland, Leonides presi
dent. New officers will take of
fice May 3.
Members of the council voted
to discontinue support of the In
dependent Newsletter until a com
mittee can be appointed to discuss
possible revisions with the Asso
ciation of Independent Men,
which dropped Support last month.
Leonides will enter an indepen
dent woman from the University,
as a candidate for queen of - the
National Independent Student Ad
sociation conference at Cornell
University April 12 to 15. Penn
State will provide student leaders
for discussion groups of schools
having more than 5000 students.
The council also voted to enter
Spring Week. A committee will
decide which group Leonides will
cooperate with for the carnival
and other Spring Week events.

spent several days visiting the

Mother of 2
'Sweetheart'
Not every mother of two children can boast the accomplishment
of being the "sweetheart" of a fraternity pledge class.
Mrs. Helen Kropp said she "nearly fainted" when her name was
announced at the recent pledge dance of Pi Kappa Alpha. She said
she thought her husband was even more surprised that she was
named sweetheart to the -49 chap
ter members.
Mrs. Kropp is the wife o Charles
Kropp, alumni adviser for the frat
ernity. She has two children, a
daughter in high school, and a son
in seventh grade. She is a sixth
semester elementary education
major and an active member of
TriVi colony of Sigma Sigma Sig
ma:
John Kraft, a pledge of Pi Kap
pa. Alpha, said members of the
fraternity hoped this title would
show their appreciation to Mrs.
Kropp. She has supplied refresh
ments for weekend parties, he
said, invited them to he: home to
watch television, and chaperoned
numerous affairs for the: _a.
Mrs. Kropp attended Lock Hav
en State Teachers College, and
for several years has intended to
continue her studies. She feels
now that her children are old
enough to manage themselves she
can continue, although not full
time.
She mentioned that she appre
ciated the friendliness of the stu
dents she is in contact with.
Mrs. Kropp was admiring the
coeds at the pledge dance given
Feb. 20 and wondering which one
would be ..hosen sweetheart when
they announced her name. She
was evidently as surprised and
pleased as the fraternity wished
her to be. The fraternity also
wanted to show their apprecia
tion to Charles Kropp by honoring
Mrs. Kropp. She received a loving
cup and a dozen roses.
Tri Vi Members
Formally Pledged
Two representatives from the
Indiana State Teachers College
chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma
formally pledged the members of
Tri Vi Colony to Sigma Sigma
Sigma national sorority, at a cere
mony March 6.
The formal pledging was held
in preparation for the installa
tion March 26 to 28 when the Tri
Vi Colony will become an official
chapter of the sorority.
Players to Hold Tryouts
For 'The Happy Time'
Tryouts for Players' production
of Samuel Taylor's "The Happy
Time" will be held at 7:15 p.m.
Monday and Tuesday in the Lit
tle Theater, basement of old
Main.
The 'show, directed by Walter
H. Walters, will open a three-day
run May 7 in Schwab Auditorium.

Miss Agnew was graduated
from the University in 1953 in
journalism. She is a former mem
ber of Chimes, Theta Sigma Phi,
and Gamma Phi Beta and
former personnel manager of the
Daily Collegian. Miss Agnew is
employed by Gimbels advertising
department, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Alburger was also gradu
ated from the University in 1953
in journalism. •He is a member of
Sigma Chi and a veteran of World
War 11. He is presently employed
with the Design Associates adver
tising firm, Philadelphia.

Miss Acheson is an eighth se
